Our Morning Coffee and Weather

When I added onto our home I made six inch walls with lots of insulation even in the 30x45 garage, and then I blew cellulose into the ceilings as well. This house and garage are nice and cozy. In fact we keep bottled water in the garage and it's not frozen this morning when it's 20 below.
All our windows are Anderson double pane as well.

I like to be warm. I grew up living on farms with no electricity or plumbing and very poor heat. Never again.

This house was built in the 1880’s with real 2x4’s. About 15 years ago the lath board was ripped out and all new wires and plumbing was done. Then they added closed cell foam insulation to the walls and ceiling. I also have Anderson windows.

18 this morning with a forecast of some sunshine. Gradually warming up all week somewhat but staying cold for the most part. Saw something on the news this morning about a snowstorm hitting the east coast states including the southern states. Not good. Fingers crossed for you all.

Not much on tap today other than a scheduled call from the bank that has some of our investments. And finishing up loading the 100 357 mags I started a couple of days ago. All I have to do is run them thru my Lee factory crimp die and clean up.

we got to the hospital around 7AM .... While waiting for them to get Maureen prepped for surgery, I had breakfast at the hospital cafeteria .... delighted to be able to say that hospital food has really improved .... they finally took her back for surgery (having her left knee replaced) about 10:45 .... I'm now seated in the lobby looking out at dark clouds that are supposed to make driving interesting around midnight .... 25 now, supposed to get up to 32 this afternoon and drop back to 22 (RealFeel 14) tonight .... "Cloudy and cold with some snow, accumulating an inch or two; roads can be slippery; unprotected pipes can freeze and burst"

18 this morning hi of 34, snow coming into South Carolina, these folks can't drive in it I'm staying home

I had breakfast at the hospital cafeteria .... delighted to be able to say that hospital food has really improved ....

When I spent considerable time in 2 hospitals back in the 80's the food at my smaller local hospital was decent, the food at Harborview, a large hospital in Seattle was terrible. After a couple of egg based breakfasts I had a donut and cold cereal breakfasts for the rest of my stay. When my sister picked me up after I was finally released I told her to pull into the first good hamburger place she saw.

once again, our local forecast for snow has proven to be correct .... I measured 3" .... 20 degrees at 7:30AM .... predicted high 33, low tonight 13 .... schools closed, very little thawing today anticipated .... just spoke to Maureen on the phone .... she said that the surgeon has already been there and is very pleased with her knee replacement .... she hopes to be released from the hospital around noon .... our youngest son and I will be going to get her, our daughter will be here getting everything ready for her return home .... needless to say, the cold and snow aren't making things any easier

Finally after 5 days of subzero temperatures it’s in position numbers at 2. It seems warm compared to the -32 we had. We also received maybe an inch of snow.

Great news about Maureen and her knew knee. Not going to be fun getting her from the car to the house with all that snow, good luck.

12 around here today with the official Deer Park temp at 8 above. But sunny days warming up to around 30 so that’s nice. Nothing on the schedule today so we’ll have to create our own fun.

17 right now and the upper 20’s later. We may have an overcast that will block the sun, it’s been nice to have several days with sunshine. It’s going to remain cold for the next week and maybe beyond with lows in the teens and highs in the 20’s. I did see 35 for Spokane one day next week.

After a very wet December leading to a good mountain snow pack that was above average we have had a very dry January. Our snow pack is now at 88% of average. Not that we have lost any snow but the fact we haven’t added any. Lots of time remains to accumulate more snow, fingers crossed.
