What type of optic setup are you running on that bad boy?

The scope is a Burris fullfield II 4.5x14-42 rings are warn medium height. The ring mounts came withe the rifle and are skinnes

How are rings? Do they seem as solid as something you would have picked up on your own like a set of Vortex or Warne (depending on how much you like to spend on rings!)

The rings are warne permanent type and the skinner mounts seem like the same one's as a marlin 336 mount.

Yes folding money or plastic money only!

To me, the fixed sights aren't important. Long implies (to me) distances over 200 yards and really 300 or 400 with the chambering available. At those distances I want an optic mounted over the receiver.

I think the name long ranger is more of a name not function. The 24" barreled 45-70 is probably the longest range proven round as shown in the Sandy Hook trials over a hundred years ago. I thing the Long Ranger will fill the loss of the Savage 99,Winchester 88 both great woods guns. Yes a scope be at home on the receiver but sights will also be at home in the darker woods Might as well cover two types of hunting if production allows.

I'm glad someone else knows about The Sandy Hook Tests of 1879. I believe they also used an 85 grain .45 cartridge to test it against the 45-70.

Saw my first Long Ranger at Cabelas today. Much more impressive than the pictures. Beautiful wood, fit and finish, and nice feel. I sure hate the decisions between want and need.
