I was wondering because you had posted earlier about a ice storm prediction.

Since you already have large propane tank it wouldn't be hard to install a small propane stove. Even if you never need it for a power outage it does provide a nice cozy ambiance. I bet your cat (Little Girl?) would love it.
A small gasoline generator might be a better way. On a daily basis a propane stove wouldn’t be needed. The radiant floor heat heats the house nicely. Little Girl loves it!

Wise answer Sir Henry, the thing about any type of gas stove is that it has to be vented to the outside so you or your cat won't be breathing the products of combustion.

Generator would have to be big enough to run your floor radiant heat, I guess that since the heat source is propane it would only have to run a pump and its controls. Would be ideal if you could find one the right size that runs on propane so you would not have to store a quantity of gasoline.

My 2 short haired cats have decided to occasionally sleep on the floor heater vents this Winter, funny they haven't done it before. I guess I'm just a big softy, we had a very cold snap this Winter and I put one of my radiant heaters on my back porch near the cat beds I have there for the 6 feral cats I feed. They love it, especially the older one I call Grandma Kitty.

I was thinking of a direct vent stove like this. Very efficient and safe, draws in outside air for combustion and you can run the exhaust through an outside wall rather than the roof. Not cheap, probably several thousand dollars for a nice one installed. Generator would probably be cheaper but they are noisy and you would need an electrician to safely wire it to the radiant heater. If it was big enough you could have it run a few other essentials like some lights, fridge and a microwave.

I’m thinking why fix something that isn’t broken. The area has gone decades without an extended power outage. This area is prepared for local outages and the power company is prepared for it. A lot of the lines are underground and those above ground are well maintained.

A Honda 2200i would run your boiler, refrigerator, a few lights and an electric skillet.

I could also use it camping in my teardrop trailer.

I bought one for the RV from Costco for 500.00. Its half the price of the Hondas and the Costco brand is made by Yamaha. I owned a couple of Hondas and they are good but I sold them and regretted it later. I replaced one of them with the Costco. One thing about the small engines in the generator you want to make sure to either run them out of gas when storing them or use ethanol free gas. You will have Carb issues if you dont.

I shut off the gas and run them dry when I am done with them.

I did that with my lawn mowers. The gas turns to varnish and will clog the carburetor.

I started using Briggs & Stratton's fuel stabilizer, a few years back. And, I have not had an issue with previous year's gas for years.

Stick with nonethanol gas and run them dry and they should start first pull next time after letting the fuel flow to the carb again next use.

At least that has been my experience.

Check out Project Farm on YouTube he did tests with that ethanol crap gas and it really destroys carbs on those small engines

I had to drive 20 miles to get pure gas in Washington. Now I have to drive 30 miles to get any diesel of any kind.

I have a Stihl grass trimmer, John Deere LX 178, Simplicity snowblower, all 25+ years old and I have used regular ethanol gasoline with Stabil in every gallon of gasoline and at the end of their respective seasons I drain the carburetors and never a problem.

I like the stabilizers as well. But, I do not drain. So far, my lawnmowers start up every season. For my chainsaw, I use the 92 or 93 octane sold at Lowe’s. The fuel seems like that it runs rich in it. But, I keep using it. Probably because, I don’t use the chainsaw that often, and I don’t want to give the left over fuel a chance to tarnish anything.

All my small gasoline engines were designed to be run on the E10. My 1970 F250 was a different story. I sold it about a year ago.

I use a product called Star-tron the guy at the equipment store recommended. I add it to the fuel all year and then when it’s time for winter storage I also add Sta-bill.

Stihl says it's OK to run E-10 in their 2-cycles but do not run E-15. They do say that since E-10 absorbs moisture more easily they recommend that you don't store it longer than 30 days.

My Stihl chainsaw and weedeater get 92 pure gas with Stihl 2-cycle oil and Stabil, Cub Cadet gets 88 pure gas, Miata gets 92 pure gas, it runs fine on E-10 premium but I don't drive it that much and it's just my butt dyno but it does seem a little peppier with pure gas. Poor Ranger just gets 88 E-10.
