My understanding is that the BP subs will work in a flintlock as long as you use real BP in the pan. But the percussion gives you options for shooting both as long as you have caps available. I shoot mostly Hodgdon Triple 7 2fg substitute black powder, and quite like it.

I think a guy would need to use a small charge of BP in the barrel also. Like 10 grains then pour some sub on top of it. The Frontiers are also great flintlocks. They have a big lock on them and it really works well. I do know where there is an almost new Frontier 50 percussion for sale.

I don't know, think I'll stick with my percussion rifle. It gives me more options all around, and I shoot in all kinds of weather too. 8-) ...I really do love this rifle.
