Re: The reality of Covid
My daughter here in Oklahoma was tested for covid yesterday, we are awaiting the results.
We had already cancelled Thanksgiving plans, she and her family had been quarantined for two weeks ending on Black Friday. This was due to a friend she allowed to park a trailer on her farm when they lost their home testing positive. Her friend was exposed at work. The friend was quarantined, and due to daily contact with the friend, she and her family were quarantined as well, but showing no symptoms, not tested. She woke up aching all over with a headache, but it had rained for 24 hours. With her illness...? Too be safe she went and had the test.
Speaking of Black Friday... I wonder how many will do that shopping on line this year due to Covid, and avoid those shoulder to shoulder, wall to wall crowds we'd see on tv every year, fighting over the last flat screen, or ipad?
Great prices...?
Maybe those ads, "Prices to die for," will become literal.

Re: The reality of Covid
This stuff is real. Just got off the phone with a long time friend and he and his wife both have it. She is hospitalized. This crud is not going away fast enough.
Re: The reality of Covid
This COVID-19 is here for a while and the hygiene and mask are essential along with social distancing. Myself and my wife were seriously ill with it. My wife still struggles with exhaustion and headaches even though she has gone back to work and has healed from the disease.

Re: The reality of Covid
My daughter's test result was negative a couple days ago, but with her illness she is considered "at risk" so her doc told her he would retest in four days. In the meantime, my 14 year old granddaughter woke up with 102 temperature and difficulty breathing. She was tested today. Her results are due on Tuesday. It could be bronchial. We have to wait and see.BrokenolMarine wrote: ↑Tue Nov 24, 2020 8:09 amMy daughter here in Oklahoma was tested for covid yesterday, we are awaiting the results.

Re: The reality of Covid
Just saw on the local news this morning that the local testing facilities are so overwhelmed that they are no longer contacting people if they test negative. Said that if you don’t hear back in five days assume you are negative. While I understand the overload of tests requiring this I feel that this process is ripe for errors. Last Monday Spokane County (maybe around 500,000 people) had over 500 positive results on just that one day.
Hope your 14 year old (and others mentioned in this topic) get well fast wether Covid or any other cause.

Re: The reality of Covid
According to an interactive algorithm published in the NY Times, I'm in line behind 118.5 million people across the United States to receive the Covid-19 vaccine. In Connecticut, I'm behind 1.2 million others who are at higher risk; and in my County, I'm behind 54,800 others. When it's my turn in line, I will get it.

Our whole stupid province is on lockdown now for 4 weeks at least. Nobody allowed in your house?! Good luck enforcing that one at Christmas. There won't be a job left to be had soon anywhere.

Re: The reality of Covid
Covid-19 is a disease and global challenge for Medical Science. But, as you say, sadly, in 2020 it is very much a political issue, which will be studied by students of Political Science for generations to come.
Covid-19 is currently the leading cause of death in the USA and will likely remain that way for several months to come. Take a political stand if you like. Covid doesn't care.

Re: The reality of Covid
NOTE :
over the last year we've had several Covid related threads .... at 30+ post this one has lasted longer than most without being shut down for taking turns that are inappropriate for this forum .... in the hope of keeping it on the positive side, I feel the need to remind everyone that some of our members have had it and all that I know of have THANKFULLY recovered .... offering concern and support for them, care givers, and their loved ones is where this thread needs to focus .... in word and tone, we need to stay away from anything remotely close to opinions approaching political or argumentative areas ... hopefully, enough said

Re: The reality of Covid
My wife's namesake aunt came out of a tribal nursing home for a routine check up. She had been quarantine for two months in the home. Clinic said she could hold her NB grandchild for 1 minute ,who was brought to the tribal clinic by her daughter. Everybody was masked except the NB. Well, you guessed it. Her aunt was tested while there and came back positive. Now mom and NB are being quarantine and being monitored but so far, so good. The aunt is showing no symptoms. This was three days ago. Let's hope.

Re: The reality of Covid
Let's hope indeed .... the city owned and operated nursing home in my wife's hometown where we spend our summers has a long standing reputation of being an outstanding facility .... they have 51 beds .... they carry out precautions to the letter and then some .... until a few weeks ago they had no cases of Covid .... within the last four weeks 17 patients (all elderly with various health problems) have passed .... some staff members have been diagnosed with it and thankfully, all either have recovered or are on their way to doing so .... contract tracing has yet to determine how it got into their facility .... my wife has relatives and friends who work there and she knows many of the the residents .... I've always had a deep respect for their nursing home and the people who work there .... before this outbreak they have had a total of 3 cases in town, the athletic director and two football players .... all three fully recovered .... we stand in awe of the dedicated professionals who are facing the reality of Covid on a daily basis

Re: The reality of Covid
I can't thank these folks enough. Theirs is a very heavy burden; working long days and weeks, watching patients suffer and die, emotionally and physically stretched to the extreme, and making personal sacrifices that most of us can only imagine.
Today's Covid death toll in the USA is more than 3000 souls and it will only increase over the next several months. Hospitals around the country are at or reaching full capacity and their medical staff has been significantly reduced because they've been forced into quarantine.
What we can do to help is to limit our own exposure by social distancing and wearing face masks.

Re: The reality of Covid
I live two blocks from a major hospital. As a result there are 5 nurses that live in my neighborhood, ( three of which I know personally). They are exhausted and I feel their pain.
Thank goodness for them, and yes, they are heroes.

Re: The reality of Covid
I talked with my cousin in St. Louis last night and he and his wife are both very ill and have been tested. No results yet.
Hopefully it's just a common cold.
