Our Morning Coffee and Weather

Well, the rain has all but stopped here in Summerville, SC. All family is fine. The wind has died down. I have some small branches down. Lost a couple of tabs on my shingles. Roof is near end of it's natural life anyway. Power is still on. I consider myself lucky. Lots of flooding in the area. Some trees down. Power out a lot of places. Could have been a lot worse.

its now 8:12pm and we've been without power for well over 8 hours .... no clue when it will be restored .... we did get out and about a bit, several local roads around us have been closed due to flooding .... will try to post some pictures tomorrow .... we've moved into our camper and fired up its generator .... the rain seems to be slacking off a bit but its most certainly still coming down

Sure do understand how you feel. Same beautiful weather today in KCMO, mild, sunny, calm....wish the southeast US had the same.

I had mentioned in an earlier post that my brother-in-law and his wife live in central FL. All okay there, rain and wind of course, but no house/property damage or any significant flooding. We're grateful for their good report.

Still praying for so many folk, and hoping that Matthew dies away real soon.

Almost feel bad reporting the weather in Irvine today. It's the usual mid 70s and sunny. Thoughts still with the folks on the east coast...

It is 47* at 8:05 AM. I hope the wind stays down today I have a couple of rim fires to sight in today some time after church is over. Right now heading down to the restaurant for coffee and to meet my drag racing friends to talk about the coming up fall events I want to go to before the season ends. It's cool, cloudy and wet here today, but it's nothing compared to the havoc that you folks on the east coast are experiencing. I hope everybody gets their power restored soon, and that you didn't suffer too much damage.

Rainy day again with a heavy snow warning for tomorrow and temps falling to low 20'sF. Warmer weather in the long range forecast.
Hope the storm folks down south are ok.

9:18 on Oct 9 .... power still off .... we've moved into our camper, its generator has been running for over 14 hours .... we have run lines from the camper to the house frig and freezer in the garage .... trying to get our portable generator running to provide power to the frig our daughter's home .... we do have some small trees and limbs down .... all in all, we are fine .... reports of roof top rescues as well as from vehicles swept off the road are common .... its reported that there have been 7 confirmed storm related deaths in NC

I'm glad you're safe and that you have gasoline for the generator; they are pretty much a necessity now. We wired our house about 25 years ago to switch from our provider power source to our generator when there was an outage. We have well water, which was the primary reason we bought a generator in the first place, but it also runs all of the electronics, lighting, microwave, furnace, sump pump, freezers and fridge, and of course, the well pump. A couple of years back, after a severe ice storm, we were without power for more than a week. The generator earned it's keep and more.

4:30PM and not much has changed .... no power at home, no outward sign that our area has been targeted for service .... when we had our camper built back in '05 we had it equipped with a propane powered 5500 watt Onan generator .... as it turns out, we don't need the generator often but when we do, its really handy .... wouldn't want a camper without one .... ordering it powered by propane has been a good news, bad news thing .... on the plus side, propane burns so clean, maintenance is minimal .... on the minus side, she is thirsty .... will go through a 40 lb tank over night .... here at home we have the ability to tie it into a 500 gallon propane tank .... our portable Honda generator does burn gasoline, we purchased 13 gallons a few days ago in anticipation of having to run it .... so far, so good

Fall seems to have taken over in the weather here. I enjoyed hearing everyone say they were cold yesterday. It was a beautiful day. Today, coffee then work on a nice Fall day.

45* at 6:40 AM. Hoping the wind does not blow today like yesterday. Calling for upper 30's tonight and maybe still reach 70* this week for daytime highs. I may take my fishing rod and go try for some large mouth bass today with some top water lures. I also have two rifles to shoot in today or tomorrow depending on the wind. Everyone have a great day and be safe. Prayers for the folks that were in the path of the terrible storm and hope they get all the help they need.
