Another reason Mark Ive said along with many others throw the restrictor plates in the junk pile.

I'm no fan of Restrictor Plates either, but without them speed increases. Speed is the main part of the problem. What do you all say to do to keep the speeds down without them?

Maybe run a 6 cylinder engine there, some of those are pretty bad ass these days.

With all the technology they have now compared to when they started requiring those there must be a way. Perhaps eng cu in displacement. But I see no evidence with what there doing that the cars doing that they crash less . Thats all the do on the super speedway. Even yesterdays announcers were mentioning it. They knew it was coming.

I'm not a fan of restrictor plates, either. When Bobby Allison went up into the wire fence yrs. ago, is when this began, to slow cars down. Thing is, whatever you do, crews will find a work around. Bill Elliot set a speed record Qualifying at Talladega 212.809, and Daytona at 210.364. Neither car left the ground, with out restrictor plates.
The thing about this whole thing I don't like is the bump draft & pushing. Bumpers not lined up just right, good bye. Happened a few times Mon.
I saw Austin Dillions car literally explode & he walked away, no worse for wear.
Everyone, myself included waits for the last laps for the "big one" to happen, and it does. It's racing.
Hopefully, Ryan will be fine, time will tell.

Restrictor plates make the field all pretty much the same, thus, all running at max RPM the whole time and at pretty much the same speed. That results in bumper to bumper racing, bump drafting and crashing. The rules need to be changed.
Maybe put a cap on horsepower and leave it at that. May the best car builder win. Of course certain guideline need to be kept in place to be fair. I don't mean, anything goes. I just don't think it is as much about speed as it is contact at high speed. I think that would be minimized by allowing creativity in the build process. It would probably keep some distance between them.
In other words, IMO, right now, they might as well ALL be given the exact same car.

It wasnt racing until they made it that way. Cars and spoilers with technology have changed since Bill set those records. Dont see what difference it makes where a car goes airborne into a fence or gets center punch and launched from being in a high speed train race.

You're right, it makes no difference, end result is the same.

I didn't honestly believe he'd be leaving that soon, under his own power. Amazing! Truex is my driver, but, the rest of this season, I'm pulling for Ryan Newman, racing or not. Wow!

Newman was my #1 pick to win it as I wrote a bunch of pages back 9 days ago.

This would have been his 2nd. He won the Daytona 500 back in '08.
