Gettysburg show and more

Post by bandit1250 » Sat May 28, 2016 5:41 pm

Met Squatch and Hack? at the show. Had a good conversation and some good laughs while talking with them. Didn't see Deadwood Dutch there. The two members I met there are very nice guys to talk to and talked like we were friends for a long time. We talked Henrys and other brands and Squatch told me things about his 45/70 and loading for it. Interesting to say the least. It was a decent show and a guy there had a big assortment of Ox-Yoke gun cleaning products at really great prices. Bronze brushes were three for $2.00 and the more I laid down on the table the better the price got on other items. He was a good guy to buy from. Didn't sell either Marlin but it really didn't seem to be a buyer show for guns. No big deal I do still like my Marlin 1894P. Gettysburg was a rat race in the main part of town and around the Battlefield. My friend and I took a little loop through one section and there was people going every where. First off he went the wrong way on a one way loop but I told him I thought it was strange all the other cars were going the opposite way we were. I think he just thought we were late and every one else was coming back. So I did snap some pictures but you would have to have a few days to see all of this place.

It looks as if you guys had a better than good time and shared some fun conversation. Thanks for the pics, Bandit. It's nice to see you three and pics of the surrounding sights. I do hope Dutch found his way to having a good time there, too.

Good meeting you too. Good time. I think we bored your buddy a bit with all our yapping!

I had a good day at the show. Picked up some powder and JHP for the 44 mag. Got a great deal on a new custom fit while you wait gun belt. There was a slight imperfection with the leather. So he gave me a deal I couldn't refuse.

Good show for picking up small stuff. Like bandit mentions one vendor was dang near giving away name brand cleaning supplies. Same for another Vendor and off brand Dremel wheels and such.

One vendor I expected to be there wasn't this time.

There was a couple other pictures that didn't make it from photobucket to my thread so I will try again.

Well now I have one picture on twice. Oh well I tried. At least it is a good clear picture. One of these days I am going to use my camera for target practice.

No, you don't have one picture on twice.
What you have are excellent photo "bookends!"

For anyone who decides to visit. Make sure you check out the NEW Museum and especially the Cyclorama upstairs. That's a once in a lifetime experience for most folks. Before movies and pictures they used a big round painting to depict the battle. It has been restored and placed in a new modern way to show it. With modern lighting and sound the pictures comes to life. You are watching from a viewpoint that's like being inside a diorama. 1st time I checked it out the hair stood up on the back of my neck it seemed so real. Pretty cool for 200 year old technology.

Glad that you guys could get together, very nice photos also. I have been there a few times and the new visitors center and the museum is certainly worth the trip.

You are forgiven, Bandit. It is a beautiful rifle, especially with those sights.

Forgot to ask a question. Eisenhower lived on his Gettysburg farm after leaving the White House. Have you seen that National Historic Site?
I bet there's a lot of history on display, as I read in one article that 99% of the Eisenhower's original furnishings have been maintained there.

Good to "see" for real some members together. I have been to Gettysburg a bunch when I was a kid. We traveled from Virginia to western New York every summer. We would stop at different National parks on every trip. But Gettysburg seemed to make the rotation more often.

Hope everyone's holiday week end is going fine and not being a wash out with the rain. We are missing a good portion of ours due to the rain and wind. My wife is already talking about a trip to the battlefield this summer after seeing the pictures. We have been to a few of the US battlefields but not Gettysburg. We have been to some out west also like Custer's and I think the other was called Wounded Knee. I have a few more pictures to add that I didn't post yet. Here they are.

Ah, CT's behind-the-scenes gentle touch again as he easily makes people disappear!!

Bandit,
Curious as to how the rifles in your last picture are secured to the monument?
Also, they are real, correct? But if so, how does the metal and wood hold up against the weather?
Quite interesting displays. Thanks for adding these to your post.

Slight subject change but while I was at the show I saw some of the silver Henry's for the 1st time. Both plain and engraved. Very pretty. The brass is more my style but they are sweet!
