Bullet Lubing

I use lead hard cast bullets when reloading for my .44 Mag BB (250 gr Bear Tooth FN) and for my .45-70 Marlin 1895 CB (Oregon Trail 405 gr Laser Cast FN). Both bullets have lube rings for lubrication and are factory lubricated. Last year I began applying Lee Aloe lube to these bullets and let them dry for a couple of days prior to seating them in the charged cases. I can't say this has improved 100 yd. accuracy, but bore cleaning is now quick and easy. I run one patch moistened with Hoppe's #9 through the barrel followed by 2 dry patches. Wih a bore light, the barrels on both rifles are brilliantly clean. Has anyone else tried this additional lubing step?

No but not a bad idea if you see an improvement.
When I loaded lead I would often see gaps in the lube rings and wondered if this would ever be a problem but I never noticed any.
Plated has replaced all my lead and should for anyone who reloads, really.

Not a big lead bullet fan anymore either. As cheap as plated is Im shooting those and jacketed a lot more.

In some cases they are LESS expensive than plain lead.
I have been a fan of plated ever since they became widely available.
They can't be loaded to jacketed velocities but can be a bit higher than plain lead so that is a huge advantage.
No disadvantages to plated at all. Pretty much are replacing plain lead - given the greater number of boxes of plated on the shelves!

I always used Alix on my cast 45/70 bullets, accuracy was fine leading non existant
