Re: Official 2018 NASCAR Thread
the norm has pretty much become the driver who gets a lead keeps it until the next restart .... plenty of passing in the pack, seldom for the lead

They have pretty much screwed up the NASCAR series.
In the past two years I have only watched one whole race.
Before that I almost never missed one.

Re: Official 2018 NASCAR Thread
in their effort to level the playing field, NASCAR has created a decent level of passing (competition) in the "dirty air" found in the pack ... when a good car gets out front in "clean air" it has a major advantage ....
Re: Official 2018 NASCAR Thread
Pretty much the same for me. I cannot watch and entire race. I must not be a big enough fan. All these new rules with the cars and the stage racing just bores me to death. restrictor plates are a joke. No more Earnhardt and Elliot battles. What happened to the good ole days. Im not watchin and they have lost alot of fans. I see tracks on TV when I do tune in that have empty stands the use to be full.Vaquero wrote:They have pretty much screwed up the NASCAR series.

Re: Official 2018 NASCAR Thread
Although there are changes that I don't like, I'm still watching, lol.
What else do we have?
What is the alternative?
Although not all of them are still racing, we still have Earnhardt's, Waltrip's, Wallace's, Jarrett's, Elliott's and a whole bunch of others still involved in the sport.
By the way, as mentioned many times before Restrictor Plates, at the Superspeedways anyway, were put in for Safety reasons. The technology over powered the tracks. Too many were getting killed. Even became too dangerous for the fans as well. Another reason why I like Short Track racing.

Re: Official 2018 NASCAR Thread
its taken me a while to decide about the Stage Format .... with the fact that in race after race the car that gets out front on a restart stays there, the stages give more restarts .... from that point, I think that is has improved the competition

Re: Official 2018 NASCAR Thread
I did not like the idea of Stage Racing at first, but I do like another thing about it. For an example, I remember years ago Dale Jr having a great day, running up front, having great pits stops and all and then with a few laps to go, he would get taken out and finish about 38th. All that great work ending up with a crashed car and a big drop in the points. Stage Racing now gives credit before the Checkered Flag.
The Rule I have hated and still hate is that stupid 5 Minute Rule.
That needs to go.

Congratulations Martin Truex Jr. The win shows us why you never give in to adversity.

at the risk of being repetitive, the above still applies .... there is plenty of good racing (passing) in the pack but whoever gets out front into clean air on a restart has a major advantage ..... that ain't gonna change until NASCAR changes it philosophy on mandating cookie cutter cars

Re: Official 2018 NASCAR Thread
Another win for Clint Bowyer yesterday at Michigan.
Stewart-Haas sure is on a roll with all 4 cars finishing 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 11th.
Another good run for Paul Menard in the 21 at 5th.
Edit: Forgot to add that it was a rain shortened race, but everyone knew the rain was on the way back and many teams played it smart.

the chief engineer for the 41 team is one of my wife's former physics students ... I pull for Chevy but would much rather see a Ford in victory lane than a Yota

Re: Official 2018 NASCAR Thread
Yeah, I was not happy to see a foreign brand enter the sport a few years back and I'm also for Chevy first, but I'm more for the driver than I am the brand. It's great when both are there though. Dale, Jr was a great example.JEBar wrote:the chief engineer for the 41 team is one of my wife's former physics students ...
