I watched several news reports and interviews last night from South FL, and interviewing a fire chief the reporter said, "Your protocals call for you to lock down your fire / rescue response when hurricane winds reach 45 mph for the safety of your crews."

"That's correct."

"If someone who didn't evacuate calls for your assistance during the storm, when winds have passed that point, what would be your response?"

"They are on their own."

morning reports show CAT 4 Irma is crossing the Keys and moving up the west side of Florida .... storm surge and rainfall caused flooding are very much in the picture .... over 5 million without power so far .... the number of Tornado warnings/watches growing rather quickly .... sure hope all of our folks who live in that area are safe

Although still carrying danger in many forms, the latest & best news about Irma now indicate it has reduced from Cat 4 to Cat 2. Praying it continues to diminish quickly, and not hang-on like Harvey did.

A reporter's statement just made on Fox News: "Devastation, destruction, and broken hearts."

I've been watching live shots of various cities all over FL for only 15 minutes now. I cannot believe how extensive and destructive Irma was over the weekend! I'm ready to shut the screen down....

I was most grateful to hear from my wife's brother late this morning about their situation in central FL (city of Sebring). Not a long chat; only two bars of power left on their cell phone. But I learned how they went through the storm. Before Irma hit their area, they were able to contact a shelter and learned there was room, and they could get in there. When they arrived, they were asked if their new dog had its rabies shots. They hadn't done that yet, so they were turned away from the shelter.

So they returned home and hunkered down in their house. I am certain God protected them as they had no flooding, but quite a lot of trees and landscape damage all around them. After the period of strongest winds, astonishingly their house remained intact! Gratefully, they were not injured in any way. Somewhat reminds me of the aftermath in our MO tornado belt area. I've seen homes demolished on one side of the street, and untouched on the other side.

Incredible hurricanes these last couple of weeks; incredible long-term recovery now starting; incredible needs; incredible struggles & suffering. Floridians, those folk in the adjacent states, and everyone who is helping the recovery all need our on-going prayers as the help is now pouring in everywhere.

even though the center of what was Irma is over Pennsylvania, it is pulling rain through our area once again ..... thankfully the rain is falling at a light but steady pace and there isn't any sign of significant wind

side note .... just got a message from the mobile diesel mechanic who takes care of our Sportchassis .... he's been tied up for several days working on various trucks passing through NC on their way to Florida in connection with the Hurricane relief .... it appears that when calls went out for emergency gasoline and other items to be rushed to Florida some trucks were pressed into service simply weren't up to the task .... he said he is doing all he can to get the last of them back on the road .... without knowing him, the thought of such an issue would never have crossed my mind

I just got back from a hunting trip early after an incident with a 4 wheeler while hunting. Im still alive with a broken rib or torn cartlidge. There wasnt a time while I was gone I didnt think about how lucky I am to live where I do and not go thru the devastion the folks in Florida and Texas have gone thru. There also wasnt a time I didnt think and pray for all of those folks and especailly the ones here on the Henry forum. Al

sorry to hear about the incident .... careful with that rib, as you know by now, that can be a painful injury .... did it happen early in the hunt ?

Yes sure did I was on a very rough trail and it was very challenging. Other folks up there were also having issues with the trail. I just happened to make a mistake in judgement but I know now what I did wrong. Al

Still wondering how Jacksonville got hit so hard.

The weather service totally missed that eastward path after landfall. The eye ended up our way, though down to a CAT 1 by then, NBD.
