The range is a dangerous place

I'm thinking I may need to take a break from going to the range. The one I belong to is getting way too dangerous for me.

No, not that kind of dangerous. It's a well run place, and you're less likely to be shot there that. You would be wandering around on Friday night on the south side of Chicago.

No, the problem is all the nice guns other shooters bring with them. They not only shoot the the guns themselves, but they also twist my arm until I agree to try shooting them myself. Recently I have been forced to try out a Colt Python, an Anschutz .22 rifle, a Series 70 Colt 1911, a Ruger Mark II, a CZ 452 .22 rifle, a Smith & Wesson .500 magnum revolver... the list goes on. Today was the last straw. A guy who does cowboy action shooting was practicing with his guns. He had a coupla sweet Colt SAA's, a Uberti 1873 carbine, and I don't even know what kind of shotgun (but it was nice).

My wish list ("need" list) not only keeps getting bigger, but the order keeps changing.

I think you have the best of both worlds. You get to shoot and handle some interesting firearms for zero $$ and after you shoot them someone else cleans them. What's not to like?

Lately I've not been able to use what I call the backyard range. Long story. So I've been going to the county range about 15 minutes away. They run a tight ship. I haven't been there in a while but in the last 2 days I talked to folks I 've talked to before and that either shot or remember my Henry's. They do leave an impression. I've also gotten to shoot some cools stuff there and probably sold a couple of Henry's. But other than a Sharps 45/70 I want for nothing. Except a lifetime supply of ammo! I'm quite happy to have what I want in my Henry's. 22, 44 mag, 45/70. Lot's of cool stuff out there and I'll be happy to shoot someone else's. But I'm not a collector and with the exception of that one empty slot in my small safe I'm content. No real hurry to fill that slot. These days I'd rather own a couple of guns that I shot a lot and well, then to own a bunch of cool ones that don't get shot enough.

Saw a really purty CZ 452 at the range today. I have a really nice little 2-7 Leupold that would look really nice on top of a CZ....

I belong to a gun club which has a large range. Lots of restrictions, what targets can be used, how many shooters can be on a range at a time, etc etc. Even with restrictions, ranges can be a dangerous place. Just recently there "was word" a shooter practicing his "big iron fast draw" shot himself in his lower leg with a .347. Word is he lost some meat and a couple toes, but "not firmed". The range has had a "NO FAST DRAW" rule for years. Rules and restrictions are no good if shooters don't follow them.

I simple gunshot wound? That will usually heal after a bit. On the other hand, being tempted by all the beautiful toys other folks bring to the range? That can cause serious long-term financial problems.

I hear you, but I don't desire them fancy fire arms. A couple years ago I was at the range and young feller was shooting in the stall next to me. I was shooting my Bersa 9UC and he was shooting a Beretta. He comes over and says "sounds like you are shooting pretty steady there" and asks me what I was shooting, and I told. He smiled real big, patted his Beretta and said "$2500". I smiled back, patted my Bersa and said $350.
