I was lucky enough to get a great deal on a Classic Single Six Ruger .22 Single Action when a friend of my wife wanted to thin out her firearms and repay all my kindness over the years in a single stroke. This Ruger is from the same year I was born, which the lady knew, which is one reason she thought of me first when she offered it to me. I had to think about the sale first. One Mississippi, Two Mississippi, SOLD.



She is not a firearms person, and the gun had not been cleaned, the hammer screw had backed almost completely out of the frame, and there were a few other issues, but... after a thorough cleaning, tightening of the various screws, I was surprised to find the little .22 is in Excellent condition for something more than 50 years old.

So, just to be clear, I have a wheel gun that I can pull the trigger to fire or pull the hammer back to a "cocked" position and then pull the trigger. Is that double action? Where as if you always have to pull the hammer back OR only pull the trigger to fire the gun is that single action?

Anyway, here's mine. My first ever handgun I purchased back in the '80s. It's an S&W model 19-1 in .357. According to the S&W forum, it's a very rare gun.

A single action is like a cowboy gun.
You thumb cock the hammer and the cylinder turns bringing the next cartridge in line to be fired.
In these guns, the trigger performs a "single action," when pulled, it fires the gun by allowing the hammer to fall.

In the case of your fine firearm, the trigger performs a double action when pulled....

It rotates the cylinder and cocks the hammer during it's long pull...
And fires the gun at the end of the triggers travel.
But... it can also be thumb cocked and fired "single action" ...
Unless of course it's double action only like some "hammerless" snubbys or semiautos...
But that would be a subject for another post. Lol

The only S/A handgun I've had, until this week, is my Bond Arms derringer in 5 calibers: .45LC/.410, .22LR, and .356 Magnum/.38 Special. I posted this gun in two range reports:

This week I did some trading with a friend of mine, who bought my NAA mini-revolver early last year. He helped me out with some financial needs I was facing at that time. The trade brought back this mini-revolver to my gun cabinet.

It is the North American Arms model of the 1860 "The EARL," which is a revolver that NAA built and designed after a 150-year-old percussion revolver used in the Old West. Two other designs were included in the "1860 series." Mine has a faux loading lever, which holds the cylinder pin in place when firing. Designed with a heavy 4" octagonal barrel, it carries a top strap channel and bead front sight. This is a S/A revolver in .22 Magnum caliber. I have the model that also includes a .22LR cylinder....and it's really simple to swap out these cylinders. Also "posed" my Swiss Army Hunter Pro Lockblade (Victorinox) along with The EARL. They are quite sharp-looking together!

RR, I just made a brief edit to my EARL post. Forgot to include that this revolver was designed as part of an "1860 series" of mini-revolvers. Thought you might like that 1860-date for some reason, or two reasons!
