Show off your 1911s!

Post by DanAtHenry » Tue Apr 05, 2016 10:29 pm

I don't have one, but I am in the market for one. Got one eye on a Springfield Armory Range Officer and the other eye on the new Colt Competition 1911. Would love to see if any of you have a 1911 to show off and tell me about.

Dan,

It would be nice if I had one of these Coonans to show off!! I did get to shoot one at a LGS (Classic model), and it is very easy to handle, and very accurate. It's on that well-known "my-wish-list-of-the-next-handgun" most of us have. Have fun on your search as you are now "in the market."

Following are two pictures from the Coonan web site: the stainless steel with oak grip is the Classic I shot; the second black Classic model is what I'd like to see in my gun cabinet. And here is a link to a video Hickok45 did on this 1911: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IKM5B7ykQBs

.357 Magnum caliber is my favorite. I have a Henry .357 Big Boy, a Ruger .357 SP101, and the Coonan Classic would complete this strong trio!!

Enjoy the video...Hickok45 did a good job looking at this .357 Magnum 1911.

How about a Model Of 1911 US Army? The serial number dates it to 1917.

I love looking at 1911 . This the only one I have left . I won a lot of combat type matches with this gun in 20 yrs . It is a stock parts inside gun and 1 of 992 made . I paid $249 for it NEW . It out shot my Gold Cup so I sold the Gold Cup and got 2 more Randall with the money .

The first pistol I ever shot was a 1911. Didn't much care for it at the time but I sure like them now.

Dan, the Range Officer and the new Colt are both good choices. So is the Ruger SR1911.

There are so many choices with 1911's. That's a good thing, but sometimes it's hard to know where to start. :)

Nice 1911s and good photos. I have to admit I'm frustrated with not being able to figure out the picture posting. I know there is a post in the computer section . I will have to try and use the I-Mac camera to post a picture of my pre-war National Match. Maybe tomorrow night if I'm not totally beat. I can build a house but I'm not good on computers.

My Springfield champion, just traded my ak 74 for this gun because I have always wanted a 1911, it's every bit as good of a shooter as my glock 21 and the glocks barrel is slightly longer

Well...I did not expect to be adding 1911, but it appears that I will be adding one today. A buddy of mine really wants one of the Smiths I have, so he is trading his Kimber Eclipse Custom for my Smith. I don't have any pictures, don't have it yet, but I will post some once it is in the house. Strange how things work sometimes.

Which Smith are you giving up?

To all you 1911 people are there any modern 1911's made with the arched main spring grip? I have a new Remington that has the flat housing and a pre-war Colt National Match with the arched one. I find that the Colt seems to fit my hand and point better.

I gave up a M49, blued, box, docs, floating J serial number from around 1971/1972, and a bit of cash. But I am OK with what I received.
