Retirement Age

I'm 52 and make a pretty good living typing stuff about hunting, fishing, guns, bird dogs, etc. I doubt I'll ever retire.

I put new Firestones on the Subaru in Oct.
I left Chrysler dealer in 09 and have been working for myself since at home,
not getting rich, but I'm WAY more happy. I work at my own pace and don't have to
share with "the man", just the Wife and IRS !!
52 now.

I retired February 1, 2008 at the age of 56. Started working straight out of high school at age 17. Worked highway construction for 6 years (served in the Army during that time period). Spent the next 34 years working for an oil company in one of their oil refineries (the first 17 years was swing shift).
Like others have mentioned, I don't know how I had time to work those years because I seem as busy as ever. Mow yards about 9 months of the year for widows and cancer patients. Winter months finding me shoveling snow from sidewalks and pushing snow from driveways and parking lots with my 4 wheeler and blade.
Not had many dull moments in my retirement.

I retired January 1, 2011 at 51 years old after 25 years in the Federal Bureau of Prisons. Moved all over the country, but finally managed to get back home at the end. Prior to that I had 5 years in local law enforcement. 30 years in Law Enforcement was plenty for me, I've had several offers from local agencies over the last few years, but have never even been slightly tempted. I have remained happily unemployed since the day I retired from the government. The federal law enforcement retirement program is what makes my current laziness possible.

You wrote "Moved all over the country, but finally managed to get back home at the end." So where is "get back home?" We happened to do the very same journey during my work career, and have settled fairly close to back home in retirement.

Also, do you bring along any Henry rifles, which we'll see pictures of, and read your hunting or range reports?

PT7, Home for me is Southwest Louisiana. I started my federal career here, and thanks to some good luck, ended it here 25 years later. I have many friends who moved to promote early in their career as I did, with the dream of transferring back home at the end. Most were unable to, sadly. So I am one of the lucky ones.

I only have one Henry at the moment, a Small Game Rifle I received from my wife as an anniversary present a couple of weeks ago. I have many .22 rifles, and 2 other lever action .22's, but this little Henry is really something special, which I'm betting most of you guys know. It is the best handling .22 I've ever owned. In one day it became my go-to .22

It has also infected me with the lust for more Henrys... I am currently in pursuit of a 45-70, and I am certain it will not be the last. I had forgotten just how much fun it is to shoot a really well balanced lever action. I am hooked...

I retired at 55 because I had the points and a job I hated. About a month after I retired from Cat, my wife and I went into buying and selling antiques and collectibles. My wife worked in an antique shop when I was working at Cat, so it was an easy transformation. We were in the antique/collectible business for 15 yrs and retired Again.

Interesting that I also have the Small Game Carbine (H001TLP), and agreed -- it is a great Henry rifle. And I think "something special" is an excellent description!

I've posted some Range Reports on my carbine (SGC). You might like to check them out. I've found it to be an extremely well-balanced, smooth-chambering, and accurate shooter.

Perhaps I just, er ..... 'waste' too many hours thinking about/reading about/playing with and using guns.

Nah, that can't be it. It must be something else.

I can relate to this. I had planned to work till 60 or so. Which would have been 4 years more. But the huge telecom I worked for made me an offer that was equal to about 2 years worth of pay as a sweetener on top of my full retirement package. Didn't make sense to stay. Last day was Dec 21, 2014.

Still not even close to catching up yet. Last few years of work my schedule was so crazy I didn't get much done around the place.

I know exactly what you mean. It took me 2 years to catch up with repairs around house, long planned remodel's of 3 rooms, etc. I swear I work MUCH harder retired than I ever did back when I was on the job.

I was laid off in October of 2003. A month later the company received a huge contract and they wanted me back but I never returned.

I retired at 59.5 years old. I figured after starting to work at 8 years old on our dairy farm and then a career in sales, 51 + years of work were enough. My wife and I got involved in 401K's and with her pension and no major bills we said enough and enjoy traveling and just plain old hang 'in out together.

I'll be 65 in September and thats when I plan on pulling the plug. Need to catch up on things around the house and have missed a whole lot of fishing the last two years. I don't see me running out of things to do. Plus I want to spend a lot of time in the woods with my Henry.
