Re: My macro journey
Crab spiders are mostly ambush hunters. They sit still in a likely place and wait for the prey to come to them unawares. The fly probably only realized his mistake when the spider grabbed him. I see a lot of flies that are attracted to my flowers. I assume they are after the nectar. Crab spiders do produce silk for drop lines and a few other tasks, but do not build webs.
Some species can also change color to match their backgrounds, although it takes a few days.

Re: My macro journey
Found a different jumping spider last evening. This little spider is very nicely colored, but very, very small. He played a game of hide and seek with me for nearly half an hour. It was hiding inside the partially opened flower bud, but would come out once or twice to check things out.

Nicely done. They are beautiful animals and your photos are too. I searched for info about this one and found an interesting graphic that illustrates how their four sets of eyes give them 360 degree vision. Amazing.

You photographer’s work a lot harder on your hunts than let’s say a deer hunter. You patience is well rewarded!

Re: My macro journey
Fortunately, some of my hunts are right outside my back door. I live in a suburban neighborhood, so I think the neighbors might complain if I shot a deer from my back door.

Had a few fall flowers bloom in the dregs of the wildflower plot, and this guy decided to pose amongst them.
