Named as one of the top five plastic polluters in Canada in 2018 and 2019; in 2019, Tim Hortons accounted for about 11% of branded plastic waste collected by Greenpeace Canada from rivers and beaches.[242]

In April 2024, Tim Hortons announced it was testing plastic-free and recyclable hot beverage lids in select Tims restaurants in Ottawa for up to 6 weeks using an improved version of a similar fibre lid that was trialed in Vancouver in early 2023 and helped reduce the use of more than 3.3 million plastic lids.
