Named as one of the top five plastic polluters in Canada in 2018 and 2019; in 2019, Tim Hortons accounted for about 11% of branded plastic waste collected by Greenpeace Canada from rivers and beaches.[242]
In April 2024, Tim Hortons announced it was testing plastic-free and recyclable hot beverage lids in select Tims restaurants in Ottawa for up to 6 weeks using an improved version of a similar fibre lid that was trialed in Vancouver in early 2023 and helped reduce the use of more than 3.3 million plastic lids. Another similar test was conducted in Prince Edward Island earlier this year.[247]
