One more rifle ready for season

Post by bandit1250 » Mon Nov 21, 2016 5:15 pm

I stopped by the shooting range today with my #2 Marlin 444. This one has a peep sight on it and the other one is scoped. No one there until I got my stuff out of the truck then a guy came in to shoot a 257 Weatherby. He asked if I was ready to shoot and if I wasn't he was going to set up his target board. He had his own target board with him. So when he was ready to set it up at a 100 yds. I asked if he would just set a soft ball size rock up for me at a 100yds. while he was up there putting his up. So when he came back he asked if I could see it. I said you have it on another board in front of yours. I asked if he thought that was a good idea and he said it would be O.K. He said you can shoot first because you were here first. I already had shot this rifle on another day but not at a 100 yds. He was going to watch through his scope to see where I hit. I just covered the rock about half way up with the bead. When the 444 went off he hollered H--- ----. You blew a hole in my target board I can stick my head in and knocked the poles down that was holding it up. :o He asked if I was really going to shoot a deer with that thing. I said only if I see one.

 It does seem like "overkill" to use that rifle on a deer. But maybe the deer are really big and tough where you hunt.

No elephants here but I did see a Rhino and a Cape Buffalo run across the road in front of my truck at the lake area where I hunt. ;)
