Ramshot Tac and 35 Rem.

Post by Vaquero » Wed Dec 20, 2023 6:55 pm

Ok, I was prepping some once fired 35R brass that the s- n- l and I split a couple weeks back. We're going to visit them next week. He has a Rem 600 in 35R that he got from his grandfather. While there we will try and work up a load for it.
So I sized and primed all the cases, and loaded a few to start with.
Back during the summer a member on Marlinowners mentioned Ramshot Tac as a good powder for the 35 & 30-30. In my travels I found a lb of it and to my surprise it was the cheapest powder I've purchased all year.πŸ˜‰ Anyway I decided I would try a little in one of my Marlin's, so I looked at the data and started in the middle. Wholly crap what I stumbled onto, I was not expecting that. It shot well enough in the chopped '74 RC that I came back in the house and loaded 10 more as to try in the other 2 35s. Well here's the results, not bad for a guess and starting place. ;)
First is the '74 rc that I had chopped to 16.5"πŸ«’πŸ˜† then the 1960 JC Higgins and a Savage model 170 pump.
On the '74 rc target, the first shot was the high right, the small hole below it is a 22 lr that the grandson put there.:)then the next four all touched.
Can't wait to see how they perform in that 600.

The two Marlins are sighted in to a 200 gr cast load that mostly shoot and hunt with.
The Savage was sighted for some factory 200 gr ftx ammo.
The three have accounted for quite a few deer in the past.
As a side note, that's the first jacketed rounds that I've ever put through the shorty.
I picked it up like new condition in the spring of '17.

Great targets with some truly beautiful classic guns.

I had a marlin in 35 back when I was shooting lever guns and found it to be a very interesting cartridge. In our area, 35 ammo has never been easy to find. 30-30, though, is everywhere. I have an online forum friend who lives in New England and he's told me it's just the opposite over there. He said you can find 35 Remington everywhere, even for sale in gas stations.

Thank you.
Odd about the ammo situation over there, never much on the shelves here either. And 30-30 is everywhere.
