One of many things i dont quite understand completely

How various optics actually work is something i confuse myself with.. from eyeglasses to binos... i had the vauge impression in my shallow brain pan that the curve of the eyeglasses helped refocus the image... but tgen when i tyrn the eyeglasses around backwards and look through rhem they work... that rolls the marbles around in my brain some pondering that. And binos... i have several pairs... you focus them to get a clear image at different distances... and yet i have a tiny pair of antique "opera glasses" that i got to take shed antler hunting cause they are tiny and easy to carry... and curiously, they seem in sharp focus regardless if im looking 50 yards or 300 yards ... hummmm.
The world is full of confusions if you make the mistake of thinking.... "why is that?" .. and then, if you are of a lazy nature, such as i be... the world remains full of mysteries...
I knew a fella that quite often said in the course his stories the phrase... "and for some unknown reason" ..... he he he he...

I tried several types of glasses myself, including those ones that have the bi focals all the way around the
lens. Those drove me crazy.
I had finally settled on lineless trifocals when the eye doc said, "You have cataracts that should be removed".
Well, Okay, if he says so. "But don't worry, we'll give you better vision by replacing the lens in your eyes with a new
improved lens". Why, how could I not want that? So, I went for it.
I went from far sighted needing reading glasses, to near sighted needing driving glasses.
I will say the world got a lot whiter and brighter.
Anyone contemplating cataract surgery I would caution to consider if for a bit. Medicare pays for it and the eye
docs are making a lot of money doing it. They run old folks through like a Ford assembly line.
The interesting thing is that a few years ago Minnesooota legalized CBD Gummies. Yep, the dreaded Marijuana.
A friend told me how they helped his bad knees so I tried them for my arthritis, and lo and behold they really
helped, but here's the ironic side effect. I actually found I no longer need glasses. Sometimes I actually find
myself driving without them without thinking, and my License say I must wear them.
So, see my mind wanders just like yours. Or maybe not just like yours. Or maybe....................

My wife waited way too long and when they did the second one, the back of the eye capsule became detached. The worse they are, the more force they have to use to remove them. This necessitated a second surgery to remove the eye capsule and she is now waiting for everything to heal, with no vision in that eye, and will have a third surgery to implant a sewn in lens.

BTW, the recovery from the cleanup surgery was far worse than the minimal recovery from the first cataract surgery that went well.

Not to mention that when cataracts progress to a certain degree, you will be blind, until you get them removed.

OK, so he was helping his daughter renovate her home. He was doing flooring and his knees got so bad he
could barely get up, so he started using the CBD Gummies. He claimed it helped him enormously. He's a really
good guy and no BSer, so I gave them a try. I take one drop of the oil in the morning prior to coffee and chew one
gummy during the day. My Wife is a Lawyer and I am asked to witness numerous documents as they are signed
over the course of a month. My hands had gotten so bad I could no longer recognize my own signature. They are
almost normal now. It has also effected my eye sight as I mentioned. They do not get you high in any way. What
it is is an anti inflammatory.

I know what folks think, but it DOES NOT get you high at all. I'm not sure what would show up on a drug test thought.

Opera glasses use a very simple optical system, dating back to the days of Galileo. Not the same, not even close, as modern binoculars. Opera glasses work at low powers because at low powers their optical shortcomings are less noticeable, but even at these low powers, if you critically examine the optics you are getting you will see that they aren't as sharp, especially at the edges of the field of view as even an inexpensive modern binocular.

I've actually been to a number of operas in Chicago and I can tell you that the members of the audience who use optics, almost universally use small modern binoculars, myself included, rather than than opera glasses. My advice: if you pay the price of admission to a major production opera and want a better view, don't bother with opera glasses. Just take a compact binocular.

Oh living back in the brush like i do there is zero chance im going to an opera. I was just wanting something tiny to carry to help me when i see a stick far away to tell its not a deer horn. They work fine for that though i also have compact binos i carry sometimes

Years ago, working patrol, I found a small monocular at Kmart for $11. About the size of a Highlighter in diameter and about 5" long. Easily fit in a pocket, but I kept it in the outside pocket of my jump bag on the passenger seat of my patrol unit. I could read the street sign on the next block. House numbers down the street. Check faces at a distance, or that item sticking out of a belt across the block. Oh, a pager not a gun butt.
When I upgraded to a slightly larger more powerful pair of binos I got for Christmas, A fellow officer who had lusted after my monocular offered me $20. Okay. I wish I had kept it. I eventually found another pair of mini binos. THEY won't fit in a pants pocket.

I used to wear glasses that resembled coke bottle lenses. Now, after cataract surgery in both eyes, only reading glasses for up close. Typing this, no glasses, bottles or such.

I wore heavy correction glasses most of my life but did switch to contacts as a young adult. About 20 years ago I had the lasik surgery and holy cow, no more glasses or contacts. I started using reader glasses about 10 years ago and today I again have prescription glasses, both sun and regular. I don’t need my glasses for much but do for night driving and when I’m in a big store like Costco or a big area like a gun show I wear them. As I type this with the screen about 18” away I’m not wearing them.

Funny story, when in high school I remember that my glasses must have been getting too weak for where my eyes were. In order to see the black board (yeah that’s right, a black board ) I had to take them off and turn them around and press them to my eyes. Doing this made that distance clear. Go figure.

If they're all too big you can shop for small refractor telescope finder scopes.
Some of them are about the size of a highlighter, but they aren't very rugged for pocket carry.

At 72 years I'm certain that most all y'all would regard me as a young pup, but I am experiencing some of the effects of aging. Much to my dismay, my once very good vision has deteriorated to the point I am now into tri-focals, and need more magnification to read micrometers, calipers and the like. I have a full-sized pair of bino's, but like to keep the gear I carry to a minimum. I think I might look for the small monocular you spoke of. I can think of a lot of uses for it. The size and weight make it sound very appealing. The cheap cost is a plus.

More concerning is the bit of a shake in my hands I'm detecting. It's gotten to the point I can't take a clear picture without finding a steady rest. I took it over to a Doc, but the meds didn't work out. I have found myself listening to all the hype and wondering if those CBD gummies might help. I still enjoy the Grateful Dead, so the "other kind" would be OK with me , but the state of Georgia won't allow it and probably never will.

My hands didn't shake but they got so stiff and sore that I couldn't write my name. I take a couple of drops of CBD oil in the morning and chew a gummy in the afternoon. It only took a few days and my hands were very much better, but the surprising thing was my eye sight improved.
Our oldest daughter and her husband came to visit last Summer. She's pretty crippled up for some reason. She tried the gummies and they mad a dramatic difference in a short time. In fact they came back in the Fall and loaded up with gummies as she had a hard time finding them in New York state.
I know it sounds like hype, I thought that as well, but they do work for me.
If you work somewhere that does random drug testing I would be careful. Although they don't make you high in any way I don't know what they would look like with a drug test.

I might have to give the CBD oil and gummies a try. My hands are getting more painful from arthritis and my right eye vision which had been close to 20/20 without my glasses is getting a little blurry.

CBD (and THC) is completely legal in WA state, they even sell CBD products at Fred Myer and my local farm/hardware store.
