The Cubs burned me big time in 1984. I did a lot of traveling that year between Milwaukee and southwestern Michigan, and listened to a LOT of Cubs games that summer. They had a really good team, a really entertaining team, and good radio announcers. They choked in the NLCS against the Padres, and I hold a grudge against them to this day.Coach wrote:I'm a Cub's fan now.
It was lovely to see them take down the Dodgers.

I used to visit Fox Lake as a child every year. My Grandparents had a cottage right on the lake so the TV always had the Cubs on when they were playing. I've been a cubs fan by geographic choice since I've lived 3 hours from there since my youth.PT7 wrote:Indeed -- Baseball is the American Game!

I've been a Cubbies fan since grade school. The person who got me interested in them was my Grandmother....an ardent fan of this team! She took me to Wrigley Field way back then when I was an early teen. I still remember watching Ernie Banks, Ron Santo, Billy Williams play Cubs ball. A lot of fun.
It has been a long time since the Cubbies have played in a WS (1945), and as Dutch mentioned, their last WS win was in 1908 -- a century and 8 years ago! (They won back-to-back championships in 1907 & 1908). If the fans and Cubs players over the years believed and acted as "Mr. Cub" once said, there have been many years of good sportsmanship at Wrigley. "The only way to prove that you're a good sport is to lose." - Ernie Banks
I agree with Dutch....an exciting WS this year with great ball-playing will be the very best!!![]()

Show them some love, guys. They are way over due.

So, Tuesday night, the Cubs-Indians open the World Series in Cleveland while a few hundred yards down the street the Cavs open their NBA season by getting their championship rings and the Browns are....0-7!
Oh well, two out of three isn't bad.

If you were to ask me which of those three franchises had the best chance at playing in a championship I certainly would have left the Brown's out. Not only are they always bad, they continue to get worse!

It was a good game. Kluber has some really filthy stuff. Struck out 8 in the first three innings!

Re: Official 2016 Baseball Thread
I thought I heard the game commentator say those 8 strikeouts were some kind of record, right?
Yeah, he couldn't throw much other than solid strikes during those three innings....good pitching performance for the Indians.

Yes, it is a World Series record. 8 strike outs in the first three innings. Can only do one batter better.

Another strong start for Kluber. Didn't look as sharp as game 1 but got the job done.

At this point they have to take it one inning at a time. That's the way you get back into it.ditto1958 wrote:Lookin kinda grim for Cubs fans.

If Lester can get a win today they have to feel better about their chances with Arrieta coming up next in the rotation. Setting up a game 7?
