There’s still good people

Post by Wabash kid » Wed Oct 19, 2022 8:06 pm

I had 3 leeever guns, a Henry Goldenboy, an 1894 Marlin in .44 mag, and an 1892 Winchester ( Miroku) in .45 Colt.
I wanted a Henry .357 to go with them, so last yr I went to the Indy gun show hoping to find my new Henry .357 Big Boy. The Indy show is a really big one and I hit every table except one, across the isle from that table there was a booth set up for Vietnam vets. Being a Vietnam vet I stoped by the booth to see what was going on. I told them I was a Vietnam vet and we talked for a good while, and they gave me a real nice book on the war and all kinds of other nice things. After I left their booth, I went to the last and only table that I didn’t hit, I told the guy I was looking for a Henry Big Boy Classic in .357. Well low and behold he had one, he also overheard me talking to the people at the Nam booth across the isle from him. Well he let me have the brand new Henry for $760 out the door, and a thank you for my service!!!! That really made my day, some things have changed alot in 50 plus yrs. When I got out of Nam, a lot of people treated me and the other vets with respect, but a lot also despised us, and called me and every other vet all kinds of dirty things. So In some ways I guess things have changed for the better, now it seems the kids in our military get the respect they’ve earned, and that’s a very good change.

So glad you found your Henry!
I've always had the utmost respect for ALL of our veterans. Thank you very much for your service and welcome to the forum.
As a previous Chicago suburbanite for 20 years, I thought you might be from that region. The name Wabash was familiar.
Enjoy...

Actually I was born in Chicago, and grew up in a south suburb. When I retired I and my wife and daughter got out of that state and are now Bonafide Hoosiers.

Glad you found the Henry, and some friendly folks at the show.
You can tell a lot about the character of a man...
by the way he treats those who can do nothing for him.

I don't look back at the things I can no longer do, I just look forward to the things I still can.
