A Little Excitement

Post by BrokenolMarine » Wed Jun 15, 2022 5:00 pm

I was sitting in the recliner, after a cool shower following the morning session on the berm wall. Stephen King was leading me thru action in Bolder, Colorado following the collapse of civilization due to Captain Trips. Princess Fiona was sleeping between my knees with the floor fan blowing in her face. All was right with the world. :P

All the sudden, I heard a pop, and glass falling. I looked to my left and there was a fifty caliber hole in the storm door in line with my head and the special tinted safety glass was no longer clear, the pop was it shattering into a thousand pieces. :o

But, other than a few random flyers, they hung there like roadrunner feathers in the cartoons. Fiona reacted quicker than I did. At the sound of the shot, from a dead sleep, she slid off the recliner and was gone. She was under the end table, then in her crate.

I looked out to see who was shooting at me. Oh, it was Miss Tina. ;)
Luckily, she was weedeating, and ACCIDENTALLY tossed a rock. (Yeah, accidentally, that's what it was...)

Took over an hour to clean up the glass. I called about replacement of the glass.
The guy at the glass shop was blunt, but nice about it, not rude.
"That glass is special order. For full view, you are talking, $350 to $400 easy. Buy a new door."

Ace Hardware: $459 and the new storm door will have a factory Fiona door.

Special order glass can be crazy expensive. Years ago I had one of the small back side windows on my Ranger break. Figured it would be cheaper to get one at a wreaking yard and replace it myself than go through comprehensive ins. They wanted $250 so cheaper to go with insurance. Glass guy told me retail on the window was over $350 as it was a factory only item, said it would have been cheaper for an entire windshield as those are available as an aftermarket item.

I’ve read a lot of Stephen King books and I’ll say BOM, you spin a tale as great as he does.

Well done!

Decided to try the Larson Doors website. Keyed in the registration number on the door, new glass on the way, free shipping, less than $250. 😁😁

Larson is a good outfit. I sold, and installed many.

Yes, I've got two Larson storm doors on my house with the hideaway screens. Good product!

I hope that she wears eye protection while doing yard work with power tools. I am glad that you and your pet were not injured.

We put a Larson storm door with the hidden screen on our front. It lets in quite a bit of light which we need as that side of the house doesn’t have much in the way of windows. Very pleased with it after five years.

Both our storm doors are full view Larson.

It was nice of the glass guy to tell you the fair and square. It sounds like the weed eater is a powerful unit!
