Black Powder Fun....1800 style
The range was a busy place today, weather 58F and no wind. The 50 yds range was full of shooters. I did not plan on shooting the 100 yd lane but that's what I had or not shoot at all. So What the heck, go big or go home.
Frontier flintlock, 100 yds off hand....I was tempted to shoot from 1 knee but I used will power...haha
50 grains Schutzen 3fg black powder
.480 patched ball
10" target
There was 3 into the wood and not on the paper, but all in all not bad for an old guy! I LOVE this rifle.
Shoot safe, RR

Flintlocks are way cool and I love mine but I also like the caplocks. Looks like meat on the table to me. Better than I can shoot offhand at 100.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

Nice shooting. How come FFFg and not FFg for that big of a caliber. Maybe that is all you could get?

I have FFg too, lots of it. Just thought I'd try the FFFg first because I am priming and charging from the same horn. Next weekend I will try the FFg. I also tried some Triple 7 FFFg in the pan and barrel with no patch or ball and the powder all went off like normal. Just an experiment with a sub powder in a flintlock.

Too bad we live so far apart as I have a pound of FFFFg that I could give you to prime the pan. What do you use to lube the patch?

Nice! Spit is a pretty good cleaner - ask any mom. And I treat my cast iron worse than any metal in my house - and olive oil keeps it in great shape. RR - you may just be on to something here!RanchRoper wrote: ↑Mon Apr 25, 2022 11:04 amBore butter, spit, olive oil… depends. Thanks for the offer, too bad that pesky border is in the way.

That is fantastic shooting with a flintlock. Certainly not like shooting cartridges.
