327 Fed load help

Post by tomf52 » Wed Feb 23, 2022 4:59 pm

:) Anybody load 77 or 78 gr LRN for their Henry? For paper punching only. Have a good assortment of Hogdon and Aliant powders on hand. Thanks for any help you can offer.

I don't have any load data for those bullets. I only use XTP's in either 85 or 100 gr and Sierra 90 gr. bullets.

There are lots of reloading articles out there, read some and take your pick. Like this one: https://reloadammo.com/327-federal-magn ... ding-data/

I hand load for my SP101 4.2", so I don't think that will translate to a rifle. For plinking cans a Trail Boss full load is very nice. Do you want tight groups, or just adequate accuracy and economy? I have a hard time relating to a lever gun, a .327 Federal cartridge, and punching paper - it seems like the wrong combination to me.

Thank you for your replies. Loong for the challenge of tight groups from a carbine that is certainly not a bench rest gun. Have had moderate success at 50 yds with 118gr Saeco 322 ( 1 to 1 1 1/2") and Unique. Want to play with other cast bullets just for the challenge. All shooting off the bags with a scope. When best loads are found will try to move to peep sights (another challenge as I have some macular degeneration. It's all for fun and doing something out of the norm.

Was talking with a good friend earlier, he has a 327 BBS.
He casts a 115 gr bullet for his, but but likes the 100 gr xtp also.
Said a 90 or 100 gr cast would make for good plinkin, and uses those in 32 long or 32 mag brass.
The 77, and 78 gr are 32 acp bullets and wouldn't recommend them for the 327.
I didn't even ask about powders.
