loctite on tang and receiver screws

Hi all!

I've noticed that the recoil on the rifle can cause some screws to loosen. Yes, I have a screw loose.

In particular the screw through the tang and the three on the receiver in the triangle above the trigger.

I have had the trigger done, so don't foresee the need to get in there to service anything. Henry said "maybe a tiny dab," but I think he may have been off script. Do you all use lock tight on these screws?

Haven't had a tang screw loosen up yet, but wouldn't hesitate to put a lil bit of purple or blue on them if one ever does.

Have had that trigger screw & the lever screw work a little loose, so I do put a bit on those. Tiny little dab, just enough to lightly coat the first two or three threads. Haven't had one get loose since.

That's with Henry guns in 357 Magnum. With a Marlin 1894 in the same caliber, ended up putting it on every screw & would still occasionally find one that got loose.

I agree with wolfman. Being I take down my rifles for cleaning every 200 rounds or so I only use purple loctite but still check that the screws are tight on all my levers. Can you tell me who did the trigger work on your rifle and how is it.

I agree on the purple. It's not always easy to find though. Worth looking for.

I use a drop of purple just for security like I do on my 1873 colt clone SAA

another vote for using purple .... it holds but the screws can still be removed without a great deal of effort

Happy to link you up with him if you are interested, but I just asked a sole proprietor gun shop owner who is about a zillion years old and went with his recommendation. It was under $65, he didn't do much more than take the factory creep out and a wee bit of the pull...took it as low as he feels a lever gun can be. There was an audible spring sound as that creep took up that is gone and no wiggle on the crosshairs when you squeeze so I'm happy. The guy has been smithing a long time and has a long standing working relationship with Mauser.

I would recommend first making sure that the screws are torqued down to the manufacturer’s specs. Then, if they are still working their way out I would consider the locktite.
