Yup, I had the same thought after reading the title! Still, RSb's three gun outing was great to read about.

A comment on your comment, JCN. A few years ago I had some training/practice for 3-Gun competition; it was with a former Marine, who helps train local police to prep for their quals, and also has training available for those interested in long-distance shooting. Anyway, 3-Gun is a very fun and challenging shooting sport; I liked it a lot....especially the shotgun portion. :)

I read one interesting "definition" to the question, "What, exactly, is 3-Gun?" I think it's close to accurate:
3-gun is as close to a real-life first person shooter video game as you’ll get without joining the military!

There were moments as I went through the 3-Gun training sessions that I actually thought I was back in the military! :o Very fast-paced, and sure does get the "fun adrenaline" going strong.
JCN wrote:When I see this post pop up I always think of the competition named 'three gun shoot' which involves a pistol (semi auto), rifle (also semi auto) and shotgun (tactical style). Not to be confused with the cowboy action shooting which also seems to involve three guns (but much different)!

Thanks for dropping by gentlemen, I knew the title would draw a few who know what actual three gun competition is. ;)
I would love to get involved in it someday. I thoroughly enjoyed my version with three very different guns. I do need a side by side with hammers for a future three gun range trip.
Load on Sunday and Shoot all Week.......okay it's a Mare's Leg I will reload on Wednesday. ;)

Whenever you do try 3-Gun, RSb, you will have a blast!

Here are the "3-guns" I used. Actually I did several timed sequences in competition mode with these, and got to see a video of myself in the shotgun portion -- that was cool. ;) The shotgun portion included shooting through a wood door, which was a lot of fun to learn how to do and not hurt oneself! Shotgun was my favorite of these three firearms.

Ruger 22/45 Lite (10-round mag)
Beretta CX4 Storm 9mm Rifle (17-round mag)
Benelli 12-gauge Nova Tactical Pump Shotgun with mag extension

The 9MM Beretta was a slick AR to use. Surprising how mild that caliber is out of an AR compared to shooting a 1911, for instance.

My personal preference, rather than a semi-auto pistol like the Ruger, would be to shoot a revolver. I found out that there are 3-Gun competitions set up with different firearms configurations, and there is one using a revolver. Because a revolver such as my .357 SP101 has a capacity of 5 rounds, the competition involves a reload in the field. Did I ever learn how to quickly handle an HKS speedloader!! Actually, the field revolver reload was a bit more challenging than the course shooting portion.

Now you got me wanting to get back into this sport. Thanks for the reminder of how much fun it is!!! :D

P.S. Just had a "wild" thought. What a challenge to use the "side by side with hammers" for 3-Gun Competition (I don't think that it is an allowed gun). Anyway, easily there would be 5-6 reloads required while on the run! Cool.

Very well done with that RSb,

Some funs guns you brought to be sure.

I've heard good things about the TRS-25. That is what i would get if looking for a red dot.
