Goldenboy 22lr NRA Should I get one?

Post by Hatchdog » Tue Oct 05, 2021 10:11 am

Good morning,

A local guy has a Goldenboy 22lr NRA edition up for trade. He states it has been fired about 30 times. Would I be foolish to try to trade for this and then shoot it? I don’t want guns that I’m not willing to shoot. I prefer the steel rifles over the brass but the NRA logo carved in the stock is appealing.

Thanks for you input.

Whatever you do throw it to your shoulder which you probably would anyway before you buy it. The drop on the stock is different from the other Henrys. I like those guns but I cannot get a good cheek weld with one.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

Hmmm, that’s good to know as I would probably want to scope it. Thanks

Most people that scope a GB don’t like it.

I saw that ad, and I was tempted for half a minute, but I agree about the deep dropped stock. For scoping, I would look for a Varmint Express .17 HMR.

Thanks for the responses guys. You prevented me from making a mistake. :D

A question, does the Henry steel 22lr have the same stock drop as the Goldenboy?

No it doesnt. I can shoot those just fine with a good cheek weld. I dont have a scope on mine I just use the irons.

The rifle and stock John posted is best for scoping. It will fit all models of the H001 but not the GB. You can purchase the Monte Carlo buttstock from Henry. The Carbine stock is good for both iron and scopes.

I.M.O. I would NOT pay extra for an "NRA" edition. I pay for the rifle, not for the extra "Bells & Whistles" . . .

I picked up the nra edition with engraving and standard stock. Henry said it was in 2003 but couldn’t give me a value or when it was actually Engraved or by who. I can’t find any info on it at all and was hoping this forum could help.
