I think you will like Wisconsin Gene, if that's where you end up.
If you don't mind fairly snowy, cold winters, it's a nice place to live.

Yes it does, nothing like looking out at a pretty snowfall with a fire crackling nearby.Sir Henry wrote: ↑Fri Sep 24, 2021 9:39 pmA nice wood burning fireplace would help.markiver54 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 24, 2021 5:10 pmI think you will like Wisconsin Gene, if that's where you end up.

Fortunately you are perfect for living in the snow country. Being retired, if it’s too stormy to go out…….just stay in and keep the fire burning.

I told my agent I want to live in a county of 20 per sq mi but be no more than 15 minutes away from a hot cup of coffee on a cold winter morning.Hatchdog wrote: ↑Sat Sep 25, 2021 10:18 amYes it does, nothing like looking out at a pretty snowfall with a fire crackling nearby.Sir Henry wrote: ↑Fri Sep 24, 2021 9:39 pmA nice wood burning fireplace would help.markiver54 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 24, 2021 5:10 pmI think you will like Wisconsin Gene, if that's where you end up.

Re: Wisconsin Homes
A buyer and I have agreed to sales terms on my house and we will sign papers next week. Then if all the stars align in 4 to 6 weeks I’ll have the funds to purchase what I really want.
In the meantime it’s look look look.

Re: Wisconsin Homes
This is what I’m finding in Wisconsin. This picture shows about two acres of the 11.25 that comes with the house.
This is at the same zoom in a nearby town.
The small blue circle in the upper right shows the full property. It includes all of the brown field.
If you match the plus sign up to the picture above it will cover the large blue circle.
The house is 4.2 miles from Uncommon Ground which is a latte stand in town. This property is in a county with 29 people per square mile yet is not remote.

What I like about the land is it slopes away to the south and east allowing morning sunshine. The deck faces southeast. The brown field which looks to be idle would make a great gun course. I saw one listing that had a paintball course on a few acres.
The house is low maintenance with no outbuildings. Everything I have will fit in a three car garage. Just like it does now. It is slightly larger at 2880 sf and has 15 times the land. All for forty cents on the dollar. My house and property would only fetch $350K in Wisconsin.

Gene,
That is a great place. Lot's of good space on both levels. Beautiful property to enjoy. Looks like a really good spot.
Congrats on having your current place close to go.

Re: Wisconsin Homes
I’m sure I can find some junk to trash the place up.
It’s really a modest home with few upgrades. What it doesn’t have is someone right next door and has a somewhat regular boundary. Too many 20 acre plots have houses too close together and then deep parcels that are unusable for my needs.
It is in the center of Wisconsin and would make a good base camp. But first my home needs to close.

Re: Wisconsin Homes
I wanted to live in the middle of Wisconsin and Medford seems to be close.
You can see the roads crisscross and Medford is close to the edge where there is a continuous straight road and then more remote areas with no roads.
If you zoom in closer you will not see anymore roads. The blue house marker is about 4.5 miles drive to town. As you go further north the roads are a couple miles apart.

Re: Wisconsin Homes
Some of the listings are deceitful. This home is on 5 acres.
Then you learn this is what 5 acres really looks like and there will be 8 houses on what you thought was 5.
How did people do this before the internet? The satellite views have given me so much information. I know where I can get gas, buy groceries or a latte and I’ve never set foot in the county.

Re: Wisconsin Homes
Just looked at the pics and the owners sure have put a lot of work into the landscaping. All the trees are nicely limbed up and all that lawn is beautiful. A nice fire break should there ever be a wildfire in the area. House is very nice too and that garage………WOW!

Re: Wisconsin Homes
Compared to some of the properties this one is plain. A couple of the hunting log cabins are massive. So much so that it becomes who you are. This modest home will not be who I am other than the junk I surround it. But that is art. Maybe bad art but it’s art all the same.Hatchdog wrote: ↑Wed Oct 06, 2021 10:20 amJust looked at the pics and the owners sure have put a lot of work into the landscaping. I want a fresh canvas say about ten acres.

Re: Wisconsin Homes
Gene, that Medford home looks nice. The carpet needs to go but at the price, adding hardwood would be easy to afford.

Re: Wisconsin Homes
There is a nice balance of wood and carpet. Tastefully done I might add. Wood is certainly "trendy" right now, however, to each their own.
