Norma Tac-22 (.22 LR) 40 Grain LRN

Post by Steve51 » Thu Sep 09, 2021 8:58 pm

Most of my rim fire shooting experience has been with CCI mini-mags and Federal rim fire bulk ammo. I tried some Remington Golden Bullets once but will never do that again (dozens failed to fire).
The local farm store got in a whole shipment of Norma Tac-22. I shot a few rounds this evening in a .22 revolver. The velocity stated on the box is less than the ammo I usually shoot (1100 fps vs. 1260 fps) My revolver cylinder seemed a little dirtier but accuracy seemed ok.

Anybody on this forum have any opinions on the Norma Tac-22 ammo?

It is one of the most accurate rounds I have found. It’s right up there with RWS and SK. You will not notice much difference close up in a pistol.

The ammo is at its best in a long gun at 50 yards although it’s still better than most further out.

It's been fairly accurate in our rifles, but just short of match accuracy in our best rifles. Been solid as far as reliability.

Remington Goldens in the last 15 years have been all over the map as far as reliability. Nothing at all like the Goldens I used to shoot as a youngster. Back then, it was considered premium HV ammo. Of course, that was when Remington was a much different company. It was top dog in its day, following Winchester's fall in quality circa 1964.

Sir Henry in my shooting any Lapua made including SK and the older Wolf with some RWS offerings being close to the Lapua in my rifles.

Thanks. I forgot all about Lapua. I believe Norma is made by RWS.

Given you have to match the ammo to what a particular gun likes, no ammo is going to be able to claim it's the most accurate. You always have to factor in the gun. The hard-core match folks do buy ammo for consistency of rim thickness and lot number, even to the point of measuring rim thickness, but that is a game most of us don't play and don't need to play, since we're recreational shooters.

For example, my best groups with my CZ 457 MTR with a match chamber have been with RWS Rifle Match, but that ammo couldn't beat Eley Subsonic in my Browning Target T-bolt. For sure, always nice to know what someone else is shooting in their rifle, but it's no guarantee that it will shoot well in my rifle. All part of the fun, though. Makes for good discussions.

It was $69 for 10 boxes of 50 or $6.99 for a box of 50. Seemed kind of high but .22 LR is very scarce in this area.

Pre panic Norma Tac-22 was about 9 cents per round. Good stuff. Lubricated and very accurate.
