Re: Mossberg 46B
Had the slightly newer version in the 146B back in high school. Used to take bets that I could shoot the head off a match at 40 yards. Never lost a bet. My favorite squirrel rifle of all the rifles I've ever owned. Had it topped off with a Weaver 6x. Great classic Mossberg. The 46/146B series rifles were often overlooked with everyone grabbing Winchesters and Remingtons, but it could shoot with any of them. I would expect half inch groups at 50 with good ammo, assuming it's in decent condition.

Re: Mossberg 46B
I have a 146B that belonged to my grandfather, and another one that I bought several years ago as a spare. As NCG said, they are good-shooting rifles. If only the triggers were better, they would improve even more.

Model 46B Bolt action repeater.
Mossberg Model 46B
Takedown, 22 lr,l,s; tubular magazine 15(lr), 18(l), 22(s). 26" barrel. Weight 7 lbs. Plain pistol grip walnut oil finished stock with cheekpiece and swivels. Adjustable trigger 2.5 to 5 pounds. Postwar version had full tubular magazine 20(lr), 23(l), 30(s). Chrome plated bolt, handle and trigger. No. S106 ramp front sight, No. 4 receiver sight with 4A four hole aperture, S102 rear. Made 1938-1946.
Model 46B(a) same as 46B except fitted with S100 receiver sight, S107 rear, made 1946-1947.
Model 46B(b) same as 46B except fitted with S130 receiver sight, S107 rear, made 1947-1949.
It's getting harder and harder to find the correct sights for these rifles. Havlins sells an OM-22 Peep Sight which can replace the S100 and S130 receiver sight. They also sell a side mounted scope mount. I have a 46B(a) which functions flawlessly but is missing all three sights. Finding a S106 ramp front sight seems to be impossible. Several companies stock some spare parts for these rifles.

Re: Mossberg 46B
I bought a Mossberg 46B(a) at an auction without doing any research prior. It was missing the front, rear and receiver sights which I figured I would be able to find. If I known how hard it was to find the sights I probably would not have bid on it.
I tested the functioning with snap caps and it fed fine and really ejected them. I tested it at the range aiming down the barrel and it functioned flawlessly. The bolt is a little stiff but I really enjoyed shooting it. It just felt good. Really wish I had iron sights for but I have a scope mount coming so I will be able to do some shooting.
Excluding the sights most other parts, feeding mechanism, bolt, etc seem to be available in the U.S. If I come across another one with any type of functional iron sights I would probably pick it up.
