Most calibers are available in my part of MS, albeit usually rationed by dealers and prices are nearly double what they were a year or 2 back. Most everyone around here shoots something (lots of wild game) and carry's a sidearm, so are generally well stocked anyway. Once in a while somebody will complain about the prices, but that's about it.geezerjohn wrote: ↑Tue Apr 27, 2021 7:24 pmYep - central Illinois has NOTHING. Certainly no 30-30!
I just bought my 009X Friday - though the ATF folks don’t want to approve it!!!! Grrrrr.
Doesn’t matter when I can eventually pick up my rifle - there is nothing to feed it:(
Boy - those folks at ATF are a real piece of work!!!!
geezerjohn - with no gun, and no ammo:(

Re: Ammo supply good in your ‘hood?
The ammo situation really hurts the new shooters who are trying to get a carry permit (many states require live fire training), or take an advanced class. This often requires 200-500 rounds of ammo or more, in addition to the cost of the gun, holster, range fees, State permit fees, etc. ,etc. At today's ammo prices it puts training out of reach for a lot of folks, even if they can find that much ammo to expend in a day or 2. It's an untenable situation for everyone.

Re: Ammo supply good in your ‘hood?
I picked up a box of Remington.357/125 yesterday at our Academy. Some days shelves are just loaded(two racks) and some delivery day just a partial rack. I’ve seen5.7 rounds, lots of Big Green, both shotgun and rifle/pistol. Only 2 boxes per person per day makes it pretty fair. Sometime at the end of the morning rush there are plenty of 9mm boxes left.

Pretty much what is reported elsewhere. A tray of 100 CCI Subsonics was $11.00. My box of 50 .357 JSP was $40.00. ITS FUNNY, the 2 box limit is literally that. 2 twenty round boxes of .357 or 2 500 round boxes of .223/5.56. A box is a box.

Thanks Achigan,
I would probably pick some up at those prices. That's cheaper than I've seen online.
Unfortunatey, the shelves are empty around here.

Getting better here in my area. Penned a bit about it in the breakfast/weather thread. Pricing is still above pre-pandemic levels.

Re: Ammo supply good in your ‘hood?
stopped by our local Walmart this morning .... huge pallet of skeet .... not a rifle, handgun or shotgun shell in the place .... did have a Mossburg and Savage long guns .... did see 1 Henry 22 LR
from there went to our largest FFL dealer .... even more skeet .... a small selection rifle/handgun ammo .... no shotgun shells .... they did have a large display of rifles and shotguns .... their handgun display had bunches of semi autos but almost no revolves

Saw some thurdy thurdy ammo at my local Walmart the other day. They had about 10 boxes of it when I was there.

Re: Ammo supply good in your ‘hood?
Got a text today that the LGS has primers, powder, bullets, pistol ammo and shotgun shells. No idea how expensive and they were pretty busy when I drove by so I did not stop.
Re: Ammo supply good in your ‘hood?
I stopped in LGS today, looking for 12 gauge slugs. I found some, not at a bad price as well: $15 for 10. I was in a Cabela's Monday, and it had boxes of 5 hollow points for $10. Nonetheless, the shelves were about 1/4 full. So, things are moving up. Seen .38s but no .357s or 30-30s. Did see a few lever actions: Henrys and Winchesters. Handgun case and rifle racks were full. It seems like we are turning the corner. I hope to get to the range, this weekend, if weather permits.

Re: Ammo supply good in your ‘hood?
Been so long since I've been in one around here that I really don't what is available.
But good to see it is showing up here and there.
I don't really need anything at the moment, so I don't even bother.
Good luck in your search fellas.

Re: Ammo supply good in your ‘hood?
Drove 100 miles yesterday and checked all the gun shops and big box stores in my area. Not a single primer or jug of powder to be found. And actual loaded ammo? Forget about it. It doesn't exist out here.
This was my local gun shop ammo shelf a year ago, when things were starting to hit...
And this is the same shelf a year later...
No sign of the ammo shortage letting up in my area, whatsoever.

Re: Ammo supply good in your ‘hood?
the last picture could have easily been taken in the shops around here
Re: Ammo supply good in your ‘hood?
Yep, I think ammo for shops out west must still come by Pony Express. That pic of empty shelves looks exactly like the shops around here except for where some shops have filled the ammo and component shelves with water jugs or some other nonsense items.
