Hello everyone, I'm 54, and live in Cambridgeshire on the edge of the Fens. Having spent around a year researching which rifle to buy, and following the advice of a grand old Gentleman who said "don't rush, don't buy the first rifle that takes your fancy, one day you'll turn the page and you'll know that you've found the one." I had never even heard of Henry until one day I turned the page....now the proud owner of a .357 Big Boy - turns heads every trip to the range.

And that Big Boy will never stop turning heads!! Great choice...I've had the Big Boy Bronze and Steel Big Boy in .357 Magnum. Excellent rifles both.

I always enjoyed visiting England when I was in the AF. Mostly spent time around Mildenhall. Glad you found Henry. They are definitely becoming more popular over here in the colonies.

JEBar......357 seems to be very popular at our club mostly Marlins but I have heard that there are some more Henrys out there.
DWD445...I have the brass model. The laws here are pretty strict, Handguns were banned some years ago but you can own Muzzleloaders or long barrelled pistols which must have a barrel no shorter than 12" and with a counter weight out of the handle be no less than 24" in length. to own a rifle you need to be able to prove that you need one either for hunting or vermin control or for sporting purposes. In the case of hunting/vermin control you have to provide written permission from a landowner, whose land is sufficient for the calibre that you wish to own. In the case of sports you need to be a full member of a registered club. I started my application the first week of May and received my license at the end of July, in that time I had a home visit and face to face interview, my doctor was contacted for a full report, the special branch did an in depth search into my background, my two independent referees were both interviewed as to what kind of person I am and the club was contacted, to make sure that I am a member and that I use the facilities regularly. It sounds a lot to go through, but it's not so bad.
Clovishound...I used to go to the Mildenhall Airshows in the early eighties - a big fan of the BBQ cookouts that they had. I live close to Alconbury a lot of the guys off of the base were housed in the village, had some great nights in the local pubs.

with the 357 being considered a pistol cartridge, I was wondering how it would be received in England .... thanks for the info on what you have to go through to purchase a rifle ... is reloading ammo by a private citizen permitted .... I hope your Henry will serve you well and look forward to your continued reports

I once spent a week in Bury St. Edmunds. Small town that looks to be pretty close by. If I remember correctly, Bury was home to the smallest pub in the world. I went, it was VERY small.

Congrats on you're licence and Henry. WOW, a lot to go through compared to Oh. I walk in GS and in 10min. out w/new firearm !!
There was a little waiting list on Carry permit scheduling, about 1.5 mo. But sister & bro inlaw took test 2 Sat. ago and Fri. turned
in app to sheriff's office and should have CCW permit today !! CCW= Carries Concealed Weapon [hand gun].

Hi JEBar....Because I've seen so many people using .357 I never gave it much of a thought, went into one local gunshop and was told that they don't bother stocking pistol calibres as there is no call for them, went into another and he said they always have a stock as they are so popular. The only reason I can think of for this, is that one of the shops is a lot closer to the range and probably gets asked for them a lot more.
Reloading is very popular especially .357, I was talking to a bloke today who's thinking of giving up .357 and has given me first call on his reloading gear. When you meet the Firearms enquiry officer who checks your security and does the face to face interview he sets the amount of ammunition that you can hold - in my case 300 rounds, when I start reloading I can only make up to that limit at any one time.

Hi JCN...You are absolutely right, that would be the Nutshell (I think) the town is also home to the Greene King brewery not my favourite Ale, although their Abbot Ale has seen me the worse for wear a time or two.

Hi DWD445, We live in very different worlds, spent some time in the States and was amazed at the availability of firearms. When you apply for your licence here you state what calibres you want to own, if you want to add another rifle at a later date it can take just as long as it did to get your licence in the first place - recently took a mate of mine seven weeks to get his licence amended and he has held his firearms licence for around thirty years. I have to say in defence of the Police, the firearms enquiry officers have been cut back and had their workload expanded massively, where once each county had several feo's, each feo can now have several counties.
