Bananas tougher than they used to be?
Re: Bananas tougher than they used to be?
Ever since they began to genetically manipulate the common bananas they've gotten harder to peel. I believe this was done deliberately to protect the fruit from insects and fungus. I remember when peeling a ripe banana was so easy, it had a thinner peel that was softer and lacked the fibrous strength and tenacity of these Franken-bananas.
The tomatoes commonly sold today are pretty bad, too. They lack tomato flavor and seem hard and never quite ripen. Then they suddenly rot.
I liked our food the way it was. Silly me.

The problem is they artificial ripen tomatoes with ethaline gas so they can pick then green and get them to you prior to spoiling. What you're actually getting is still a green tomato. Home grown are the best.

It's not nice to fool Mother Nature! Remember that? Still true.

Cooperhawk is correct. I built an addition on to a banana supply company. The bananas came off a literal banana boat green and hard as a rock. They would gas them overnight and ship them out the next day to the local store. Any of the bananas that were yellowish would not go to the stores, they were given away. I never ate so many bananas in my life. Once they hit the store shelves the clock was ticking. Usually about 3 days before the bananas were to ripe to sell.

I have been opening bananas from the bottom for years now, so much easier.
I never take myself seriously....

Gased up tomatoes is one of my pet peeves. These burger chains that insist on putting green white and anywhere from red to pink tomatoes on a burger are idiots. Just leave the damn thing off. There tasteless anyway and why even use them.

Yep, I usually take them off. Not a big fan of tomatoes anyway.
