What did you do at your reloading bench today?

Put together some new test loads for the 357 Mag BBS. Using a Missouri 158 gr. RNFP hi-tech coated bullet with 5.8 gr. of Hodgdon Universal, loaded 1.585". If the weather cooperates I'll take these to the range tomorrow and see how they group and run some over the chrono.

Pulled the bullets on 30 + 300 Savage factory loads I received in a zip lock bag. Glad I did as there were both 150 and 180 grain RN that I couldn’t tell apart from looking at them. Also there were a few pointed spritzers and in those few there were two different bullets. I guess I could have shot them but they would have driven me nuts with inconsistent results.

An interesting side note. On several of the cartridges the powder was clumped up and wouldn’t pour out. I had to use a small screwdriver to scrape the powder out. Don’t know if this would have been an issue or not but I’m glad I pulled them. I also decapped them and threw the old primers away. Felt like I was tossing gold nuggets in the trash.

Plan is to polish the brass and reload them using 150 grain flat base bullets when I can find some. I read that due to the short neck on the 300 Sav that boat tail bullets are not recommended. Longer boat tails might eliminate some neck pressure.

Yeah, I’m running out of storage boxes too. Cleaned and prepped another 100 cases. Sized, belled and primed.

I ordered a batch of 125 grain plated flat point bullets. Trying something new to me. Looking for that elusive 2000 FPS round. Not a hunting load, just for fun. Paying $.15 each for bullets is annoying.

Spent a cloudy cold afternoon decapping approximately 2000 .45 ACP. Bought a bag of range brass earlier last year. Plan on loading Hornady 185 XTPs for EDC and the rest with Extreme 225 gr. Hi Tech LFPs. Plan on using CFE Pistol and TITE GROUP. Got the first batch in the tumbler with pins.

Yesterday while killing time waiting for Mrs. Hatchdog to get ready to go to town I reset my 357 dies from my turret press to my single stage. Since I am working to develop an accurate load for my BBS I didn’t want to use my inexpensive Lee turret press. I’m ready to start loading once I drag my wimpy butt to the range to shoot the laddered loads I have ready. Wimpy butt because it’s been real rainy and foggy lately which is cold down on the river where the range is. Next Monday is 40 and sunny and Thursday is 45 and sunny so maybe I can drag myself away from the fire and get some shooting done. I’m also planning on running some .223 Mini 14 loads across my Chrono which takes some time to get set up.

Good news is on yesterdays run into town for component searches I found a new set of RCBS 300 Savage dies on close out at 25% off. Bingo!

Got back on the bench today for a while. Had 150 pcs 45/70 brass to fill up. 50 pcs once fired, lubed, sized & cleaned, ready for primers.
100 pcs new Starline brass, trimmed, lubed ( Hornady One Shot ), sized, ready for the tumbler to remove the lube.
Think I'll call it a day, have another go tomorrow, maybe.

That’s a fact. Funny, I have all the internals but not the externals. I have powder, primers and bullets but no brass or dies. Not to worry tho, I won’t have my hands on the 41 for a while as it’s in layaway jail.

I really missed out on an opportunity a month ago or so. A local guy had three boxes of bullets, 2 Hornady and 1 Speer and a bag of 100 Starline new brass for the 41 for sale for $100. I thought about you guys on here with 41’s but figured it was too far to try to do a deal with him. Of course once I decided to jump back into 41 I reached out to him and he had sold all.

Hatch- I saw your post tonight and a buddy of mine got out of handloading and gave me his stuff. In the boxes of stuff that he gave me was a full set of Lee .41 Mag dies, shell holder, and powder scoop. You are welcome to have them if you want. I'll never use them and they were given to me and I'd be happy to pass them along to you. You can P.M. me with your address if you want them. Also, for anyone else there were some Lee 38-40 dies in there too that I would pass along.

I received the 41 mag dies Greyhawk so kindly sent to me. A great big thank you to him for his generosity even refusing to allow me to reimburse him for the shipping costs. Just another example of the great folks I have met this year on this forum. Thank you again Greyhawk.
