Al, are these fires getting close to you?
I rarely ever buy a rifle, but when I do, it's a Henry.

Grunt
The one closest to me is about 30 miles away. Its highly unlikely that they would make it to where I live. But the smoke and ash around here has made the air quality bad and its been going on now for 3 months. Its getting real old.

A cup and a half to start today. Busy day yesterday. Spread rotten hay over garden now that its done for the season had to pull a calf and so on and so on... slept like a baby last night. Fiends that hunt with me on the farms are coming down today to help me check tripod stands and tree stands to make sure everything should and safe for upcoming season.... 42° now.... no doubt fall is here... trees are pretty.... have a good day wherever you be

Re: Our Morning Coffee and Weather
looking out the window its a gray morning in coastal VA .... looking at the weather radar, there ain't a cloud in the state .... 61 with 98% humidity and a 15% chance of rain .... 65% chance of rain/thunderstorms during the campgrounds schedule Trick-Or-Treat .... Folgers flowing, breakfast on its way
Re: Our Morning Coffee and Weather
25 with a cold NE wind, probably low teens windchill. We had 4.5” of snow yesterday, winter is here. What happened to fall, we had a late summer and then slipped right into winter. Two and half weeks ago I played golf on an 80 degree day and we were complaining about it being too warm.
Today I get to clear snow from the garage pad and the walkway to the house but I won’t plow my driveway yet. It’s gravel so I like to get a good packed snow surface first so I don’t plow all my gravel off. Besides, it’s supposed to be 50 by the end of the week. Mother Nature bringith and takith away too.
I will go down to my elderly neighbor who has the good fortune of a paved driveway and plow his snow off.
First, Folgers, the local and national news (Fox) and then some good eatin!

Re: Our Morning Coffee and Weather
24 degrees this AM. Coffee and stripes.
Someone called the Game Warden who showed up at the neighbors house. He called me.
They said with all the shooting on the lake someone must be over limit and he should check.
He has no boat and without one he won't find them anyway.
It's duck and goose season and there's no way to know how many hunters are on the lake. It's just harassment by
tree huggers.
Got to pull my dock today. More snow tomorrow and I'm afraid of an early ice up and getting it frozen it.

I can’t believe all the snow and cold some of you are getting. It might frost here tonight. I have to make the big decision of when to bring the coffee pot inside.

Supposed to snow here tomorrow. Will see. I know those fires could use some water. 18 here today and supposed to hit 55.

Re: Our Morning Coffee and Weather
In Minnesota it gets so cold that fire freezes. At least that’s what I’ve heard.

Re: Our Morning Coffee and Weather
I have to update my earlier weather statement. I measured the snow depth on my patio and when I shoveled it off I found lots of water under the snow. The concrete had retained lots of heat so the snow melted somewhat. So I re-measured in the front on a chair that has only cold air under it and found 6.5”, not the 4.5” as reported earlier. And of course the temp dropped to 21 before starting to raise up. All in all it’s a beautiful day here in Eastern Washington State.
Re: Our Morning Coffee and Weather
It’s hard to consider 18 degrees and a wildfire burning. We always associate fires with heat. I wish as Sir Henry joked the damn fires would just freeze!!!
Re: Our Morning Coffee and Weather
Currently its colder down here than it is where the fires are at. In Estes Park its 54 and sun shine. Here its cloudy and only 32. I hear that the Cooperhawk is one tough guy because he lives where fire freezes and can handle that type of weather. Maybe its all those Oreos and coffee that helps him out.

Re: Our Morning Coffee and Weather
I'm so tough I don't even shave, I pound them in with a hammer and bite them off.
Seriously though, ever see a bucket of boiling water turn into smoke? 20 below zero will do that. Just throw the water into the air and poof.
Just got the dock out of the lake. The deck boards were frozen to the metal and I had to break them free. Pulled the boat up and turned it over on the dock for the Winter.
The lake will probably freeze over this next week.
When I was a few years younger we thought 20 below was perfect snow mobile weather. We'd suit up and ride all night. Not any more.

I hope they get it under control, so you and everyone else out there can get back to normal. Obviously, some who lost everything, wont. Bad business.

Roper, good thing you are in Southwest Alberta and not Northeast Alberta or it might get a little cold.RanchRoper wrote: ↑Sat Oct 24, 2020 7:43 pmGoing down to -10F tonight. My truck has brand new studded Wrangler Duratracs on it. Good to go.
Brrrrrrrrrrr any temp with a minus sign front of it is just wrong!
