Talk you out of it? Boy are you in the wrong place. You should have turned left at Albuquerque.

Nope, not now, never!
Hard to find. What’s the barrel length? Almost “pulled the trigger” on an 8 3/8 a few years back at the local pawn shop but I have never cared for that barrel so talked myself out of it.

Forty, minty 25-5s in either 45 ACP or 45 Colt command premium prices, these days, typical 1K and up, so if you're looking at one with a price that is too good to be true, proceed with caution and check it out, thoroughly. 3T versions (target hammer, target trigger, target grips) command higher prices and increase value, so check for those. Original box and papers also add value.
Keep in mind, these are not Rugers, so if the gun has been shot a lot, check timing. Definitely no hot 45 Colts in these Smiths, either.
Another issue on the earlier vintage 45 Colts was oversized throats, which S&W later corrected in the early 80s. In a nutshell, a piece with oversize throats is going to suffer in accuracy unless you find the right lead bullet to fit. See the discussion, http://smith-wessonforum.com/s-w-revolv ... l-bad.html.
I had an early 70s version in 45 ACP. Beautiful gun, but it show way high with standard 230s even with the rear sight pegged down at the bottom. Had to use target 180s to shoot bullseye with it, so sold it off. That's the way the used gun game goes.
Still, 25-5s are appreciating in value or at least holding steady
Best of luck

I'm looking at any made in 80's or later but not a new one and .45 Colt. Since same gun offered in .45 ACP should be safe at that pressure level in 45 Colt. 8-9 gr. Unique would be the loads. Yes will have to spend 1000+ to get what I'm after.
No rush.
