Worried
My grand daughter (20 yr) gave me a call last week and told me she enlisted in the Army. After my initial shock, I asked what MOS. She said Combat Medic. My heart skipped a beat as I knew she would be a high value target in a fight. I said all the right things in the remaining conversation and I how proud I was of her. After the hang up, I about threw the phone out the window. I was so pissed. This was not suppose to happen. She was suppose to go to school ( trade or college), graduate, find a mate, give me great grand kids to spoil. Not to get her butt shot off!! We vets know what combat is. She has no clue what she is in for. I wanted to call her back and ask her what the hell are you thinking of, but I didn't. Knowing my grand daughter , she would just dig her heels in and ignore anything I said. After a few days of being angry, I called her dad, my son, and yelled at him for letting this happen. Not steering her in the right direction, etc, etc. He shut me down buy saying it is her life and accept it. God, I hate it when he is logical like that. I will accept it but I won't like it one darn bit. I am done. I just had to unload on somebody besides my wife. She is going to poison my coffee if don't quit whining. Thanks for listening.

Be concerned and don’t worry. Most of all be proud.

Re: Worried
You know that she's thought about it and talked about it and made her decision to go, anyway. She's answering the call to duty as a brave patriot who clearly wants to support our country's other sons and daughters who are also in harms way. I wish her godspeed.
Be very proud, Wiz. I hope she comes home to you soon.

Wiz,
I don't know what to say that will make your feeling and worry any better. I for one, know what a medic's duty are and also seen them in action. Just the fact that she chose that MOS makes her an automatic hero in my book. I know you are proud and worried at the same time. I salute her, along with my prayers. Good luck too you sir.

Can't really add anything to what Team Roper said, agree totally. I had combat medics work on me when I was wounded.Team Roper wrote: ↑Mon Oct 12, 2020 3:44 pmWiz,

Yes, it is dangerous, but so is walking across the street. Just tell her we're all proud of her & wish her the best.

Re: Worried
your mix of admiration and strong concern is clearly well based .... she clearly takes after her Grandfather
Re: Worried
I had those same thoughts when one of my sons enlisted in the Marine Corps. Kept them to myself, encouraged him, praised him. I also prayed for him during the deployments and thank god everything went well, I was so proud of him. So Wiz the best you can do is keep the faith and keep her in your prayers.

I wont ever experience this as I have no children. Im not sure how I would react. But I know freedom isnt free and we still need men and women like her to do that job. Thanks Wiz for supporting her she needs that even if your feelings are otherwise. She must be one tough young lady to make that decision. I wish her well and most of all safe.

Re: Worried
God speed Wiz and bless her for her forthcoming efforts! May she be safe and save lives.
I know this must be a very difficult reckoning for you, however, all you can do at this point is show support. It will help her remain sharp and successful.
I DO feel your concern though!.

Re: Worried
When you see her again, tell her how you bragged to all us vets about her and how proud we ALL are of her. Tell her we said to study hard, bring them back alive, and do the same for herself.
Keep this in mind...
My son did four years in the Coast Guard During/After 9/11. He served as a point man on boarding parties in drug interdiction raids on vessels of all sizes. He survived. My son in law did six years in the Air Force, B52s and B1s. He's still here, working curriculum development for the Air Force as a civilian. My daughter, air force, married him and got out. All made it.

by the way he treats those who can do nothing for him.

Re: Worried
Thank you all for your support . She is not going any where for at least 26 weeks. 10 weeks basic training, 16 weeks AIT in her MOS. I believe all at Ft. Benning, which I know quite well. Heck, I will be closer to her than her parents. It would be kinda neat to go to her graduation from basic. Again, thank you my friends.

20 years active. The odds are on her side. The snake eaters tend to take very good care of their medics.

Re: Worried
It's a sexist thing to say, but they will also likely be on overwatch during liberty, looking out for her interests. Woe to the guy who looks crosseyed or God forbid says something wrong to "Sis" after hours if "The Boys" are around.
I can see one of them handing her an arm, still in a sleeve.
"Can you put this back on kid? I told him twice if he touched you again I'd tear his arm off..."
"Geez Bull, that's twice this month. ".

Re: Worried
You should be able to go to the graduation, "if" Covid doesn't intervene. I went to my " now ex " grandsons graduation at Ft. Knox. The Wiz wrote: ↑Wed Oct 14, 2020 8:05 amThank you all for your support . She is not going any where for at least 26 weeks. 10 weeks basic training, 16 weeks AIT in her MOS. I believe all at Ft.
