Long range shooters
Long range shooters
My boys are getting into long range shooting. 300 to 1000 yards. They have a buddy who has a large field at his farm that works for the shooting range. So this weekend they invited me to tag along. We had a paper target at 100 yards, and 12" gongs at 300 and 500 yards. They both shoot 6.5 Creedmore. The front rifle in the picture is my 300 mag (left handed bolt) The second rifle is my youngest son's AR-10 that he built in 6.5 and the very RED rifle is my oldest sons Ruger precision rifle (also in 6.5)… I hadn't shot my 300 in about 10 years so I picked up a box of Hornady Superformance 180 grain, I kept up with them easily hitting the 500 yard gong, but I will have to say that I had a sore shoulder when it was all done!

Re: Long range shooters
is yours a 300 Win Mag .. .. we have a Remington 700 chambered in 300 WBY Mag .... understood on the sore shoulder ... I had to have it Mag-Na-Ported, replace the OEM recoil pad, and have a Mercury Recoil Suppressor installed in the stock before I could even sight it in .... every since preforming all of those upgrades, I can fire it without pain

Yes... 300 Win mag.... I did my own recoil modification on it that day.... after the first shot I put a padded jacket on instead of just shooting in a tee shirt!JEBar wrote: ↑Wed Apr 29, 2020 11:54 amis yours a 300 Win Mag .. .. we have a Remington 700 chambered in 300 WBY Mag .... understood on the sore shoulder ... Re: Long range shooters
I have a brother-in-law in Minnesota who hunts with a 300 Win Mag .... its a fine rifle that is capable of hitting at long distances .... I sure wouldn't want to fire it with on only a T-shirt between me and rifle's stock ....

Re: Long range shooters
I am looking into the 6.5 as an alternative.

I started with the ar10 platform. But, I’ve never liked the black guns. Maybe a Henry Long Ranger. We will see.

I have a Bergara BMP in 6.5 Creedmoor. It's a great cartridge, easy to load for and easy to get great performance out of. Light recoil really helps in keeping your eye on target at the long ranges.
