Hurricane Dorian

Hurricane Dorian appears to be on its way up the south east coast ..Frown .. unless the track changes again, looks like it will get to us mid to late in this coming week .... do hope folks in its path take the required precautions

I'm glad my BIL and his wife live almost exactly in the middle of FL and not on either coast. Even so, several hurricanes have impacted them over the years. Rough storms and lots of rainfall too often.

With the latest track, it Looks like we will get a lot of rain, but I’m guessing those that live east of the 95 corridor will take the brunt of it again. I hope everyone stays safe!

This makes the third hurricane for us since we moved last Sept. from Illinois. I starting to miss the tornadoes.

looking at Dorian today, its a most impressive Cat 5 .... if the latest projections have it turning north, the eye staying off shore and weakening as it moves into cooler waters .... as of right now the we have a 90% chance of rain, a high of 74 and NE 20 MPH winds on Thursday .... hopefully, that will be as bad as it gets .... should they be wrong and it turn so the eye comes our way, tornadoes will most probably come with it

Maybe it will turn and go a different direction. The destruction from these Hurricanes and Tornados for that matter is devastating. I hope everyone down that way stays safe.

This is why I prefer tornados. They hit and run. Not so much time for worrying. Ever hear of people cleaning out grocery stores before a tornado? Nope

They called for mandatory evacuations of the low lying areas starting tomorrow. I stopped by Wally World on the way home from work, 1AM. Bread was non existent. They still had plenty of milk and eggs, and were restocking canned goods. I went ahead and filled up my 5 gallon generator can before calling it quits for the night. I should have gotten another couple 5 gallon cans, but thought I didn't have to worry about it this early.

only moving at 1 MPH Cat 5 Dorian continues to hammer the Bahamas with 200 MPH our area winds .... their airport is under 5' of water .... deaths are being reported .... post storm pictures are bound to show devastation .... no clear handle on where the storm will be in a couple of days but right now the best guess is it will move through our area on Thursday

We are lucky to be in the western part of NC. rare for us to get anything really bad here.
My neighbors' son, who is a great young man, is at school at UNC Wilmington. Sure hope here fares ok.

I lived in Virginia from 1968 to 1983. During that time we had several major hurricanes come ashore and cause a lot of damage.
The worst I remember was Agnes in the early seventies. Days and days of rain that took out stone bridges that had been around
since before the Civil War. At one point my dog was sitting on her dog house which was floating away and I had to go tow it back.
The eye actually came over my house and went north to Johnstown Pa., devastated that city with floods and then came back and
the eye floated over my house a second time going south.

Up here we get tornadoes and blizzards. I'll take them.

I have close friends that live on Cape Hatteras, the Pamlico River, and coastal Maryland. They've all experienced damage from
storms, but they stick it out.

it appears to have devastated the Bahamas .... still pretty much stationary, winds weakening .... the only difference I see in the forecast for our area is the chance of rain on Thursday has decreased from 100% to 90% ...

hot and humid here today, spent the morning mowing our grass .... current track takes the eye over the Outer Banks .... we are in store for rain and wind to move in tomorrow night .... we plan to unload more stuff tomorrow .... after which we will pull in the slides .... if that track proves to be accurate, our hardest hit area will be east of I-95 ....

Our friend ( the student at UNC Wimington ) arrived home this afternoon. Classes have been cancelled for the week.
Was glad to see him come home to safety in the mountains.

we've buttoned up the camper and are pretty much on standby .... chance of showers is projected to rapidly increase from 5AM on .... by 9AM thunderstorms should be making an entrance .... the chance of storms isn't projected to begin falling until around 5AM Friday

sitting here watching coverage of Dorian hammering Charleston .... so far, we've had a few sprinkles but its coming down hard in Fayetteville (about 20 miles south) and is on its way ....
