Lonesome Dove saddle

Post by Arkansashog » Fri Apr 04, 2025 6:11 am

I made this saddle back in 1989 for a customer as a tribute to the Hat Creek cowboys from Lonesome Dove. The customer has since passed on and it's now in a private collection. You may have seen it at one of many cowboy festivals over the years. It has literally been displayed coast to coast. First thing folks want to know is what rifle is in the scabbard. Last time I saw it, the rifle was a 1894 Winchester in .30 WCF made in 1901.

That is really nice. Thanks for telling us, I probably would be one of those wondering what was in the scabbard.

Love the saddle, excellent work.

Just watched Comanche Moon, the prequel to Lonesome Dove. Val Kilmer has a lead role in the movie and a good portion of the movie was filmed on his ranch. In the movie, bit of trivia, you learn why Newt, is called, Newt.

The DVD arrived the day I saw the post the Val Kilmer had passed.
You can tell a lot about the character of a man...
by the way he treats those who can do nothing for him.

I don't look back at the things I can't do anymore with regret, I just look forward to the things I still can.
