Calving and lambing time

Post by 220 » Wed Jul 19, 2023 5:18 pm

Sheep have been lambing for a bit over 3 weeks and cows started calving this week.
You could say I have been a bit busy, weather has been great for the past week or so, sunny days and getting to the mid 50's. First few weeks of lambing were not so good, overcast rain wind and lucky to get to the mid 40's. Perfect weather to kill newborn lambs through exposure.
The little trailer I built for the bike a few years ago has had a real workout bringing sheep into the shed and taking them back to paddocks. Working even better than I had hoped, no need to catch the ewes. If I grab the lambs and put them in the trailer ewes have been walking straight up the tailgate and in.
Had to bring this girl in so I could keep and eye on her. Trying to raise triplets when you only have 2 teats is a big job.
She is part of a little project daughter and I have going trying to breed colored shedding sheep. We certainly got a bit of variation with her lambs.
