Skinner sights on Evil Roy?
I'm picking up my new Evil Roy on Monday and am considering adding a Skinner Aperture sight. With all of the options available (receiver vs. barrel mounted sight, etc.) I'd like to know from those who have done so what your advice is.
Should I go this route and which sight?
I'll be plinking and target shooting no further than 150 yards, mostly 50-75.
BTW - if I go with a Simmons 6x what rings would you suggest?
Thanks for your help!!

Welcome to the Forum from the Show-Me-State, Larry....and congrats on your new Henry rimfire!
Enjoy both.
I have a Henry SGC, which has the Skinner peep as stock on the receiver. Best rear sight placement for me. However, I've used the barrel-mounted Skinner peep also, and for me it also is much easier to use than the stock buckhorns. I'd say the peep sight is a good option; but if you like to scope the rifle, that's okay, too.
Possibly you'll get other iron sight options from some of the Henry Folk.
Best as you search for your sights.

I also Like PT have a small game carbine with the receiver mounted peep site from skinner. That would be my choice if I was to buy one for the first time on any of my other Henrys that dont have one on them. While I have never used the barrel mounted peep just from looking at it for me I dont think I would care for it. Al

Welcome to the forum from CT and congratulations on your new Henry. I put a receiver mounted Skinner on my Big Boy and think it's the perfect option. Let us know what you decide to do.larry44 wrote:I'm picking up my new Evil Roy on Monday...

Re: Skinner sights on Evil Roy?
Skinner, Skinner, Skinner! Oops, I'm repeating myself! SKINNER! Dang, now I'm shouting! Seriously, a Skinner Peep is the only way to go, as most of us will attest to.
I had considered an Evil Roy 22LR, but I wanted a "Brass Henry". When I discovered that the GB Youth is identical except for color and lever, it was an easy decision to modify it to be the same. And a Skinner was a must. I chose to use the receiver mounted rear sight, as it is closer to my eye and gives a better sight radius. It does require that you send the receiver cover off to Andy at Skinner to drill/tap, unless you have the special (and very difficult to source) 6-48 tap, and the tools necessary to do it yourself. Believe me, for $35 plus $7 for shipping it's not worth it. Takes about a week or so.
You may want to order the "Black/Silver" rear sight for a perfect Evil Roy match.
Now, this is only a suggestion! I chose, based on careful measurements, a slightly taller .500" high front sight. But, as Andy points out on his front sight selection guide, there are many variables, like ammo used (I use only CCI Mini-Mag) shooting style, etc., so actual choice must be determined at the range, at ideally target yardage. But .500 on the short barrel carbine should be spot on, and at least a good place to start. I don't know what front sight ships with the Evil Roy, so check first. My GBY was .430.
I also ordered the two small setscrews to plug the barrel holes under the buckhorn, as well as a dovetail plug with spare aperture threaded hole to carry an optional aperture, and a .070 aperture. Skinner comes stock with a .090 aperture, but I've settled on the .070 at 50 yards.
Groupings within an inch! Note: be sure to focus ONLY on the front sight against the target. The rear will take care of itself.

Re: Skinner sights on Evil Roy?
I have a Goldenboy with the Barrel mounted Skinner Sight, looks good and works great. You will definitely need at minimum a .450 front sight or possible a .500. I have also mounted one on a Goldenboy on the receiver myself. Found the tap off of eBay. Worked well also and gives you a longer sight radius. But if I ever had a Goldenboy that I needed to mount a Skinner sight on it would be a barrel mount. Just easier and looks great with the Brass sight. I also have the SGC with the Skinner sight on it which I also like. But that was a factory mounted sight so no hassle for me. I even have the Skinner dovetail receiver mount sight on my Winchester 9422, just waiting on the backordered 1/4" .450 front brass sight.

Re: Skinner sights on Evil Roy?
Another SGC owner here, and the receiver mounted Skinner Peep is the bomb. Can't imagine that the barrel mounted version would work for me, but I've never tried it, so I'll withhold comment. I just know that the receiver mount gives me a great picture of the front sight and the target. I also opted for a Lyman Globe front sight and a fine post insert.
The Lyman/insert thing was very much personal preference, but it's worth investigating, IMO
AND, most of all, welcome to the FORUM and CONGRATS on your new Henry. Eager to hear your shooting experiences and seeing some pics!

Welcome to the forum from the TV Oregon!
Which sight depends on how good/bad your eyesight is and the direction it's heading with you getting older.
Skinner peep receiver mounted is good if you have good eye sight. For me, my eyes are so bad a receiver mounted sight was a bad blur and useless. Barrel mounted worked for me, but I was not very accurate with it beyond 50yds or so. Eventually settled on a 1-6x scope. 6x was not quite good enough for me beyond 75 yds and wish I had gotten an 8 or 10x. I got Vortex rings off of Amazon and am very happy with them.
If you check out the Vortex website, their rings are hard to find. They have rings under both 'Riflescopes' and Reddot/Accessories.

But, back on to the topic at hand, your Evil Roy is a beautiful rifle. I went with the same set up as Billy Boy on my Small Game Carbine. .070 rear aperture and a .500 front sight that Henry shipped me. It is the factory front sight Henry uses on the .22 magnum version of the SGC. I liked the set up so much I bought a Big Boy Steel Carbine in .357 and set it up the same way.
As for scope rings, I think Henry sells rings for the .22s. I’d call them and ask what they would recommend while you are ordering the .500 front sight.
