Evil Roy
I'm thinking of getting a couple Evil Roy rifles. I don't like the writing on the buttstock but will replace it anyway with a youth stock. I'll put a Lyman globe on both and a Skinner receiver peep on one and a Lyman tang on the other.

I agree, I'm not crazy about the writing on the buttstock either. I don't believe I would mind it stamped on the barrel though.

Re: Evil Roy
I knew you might "need" another Henry.
But I see your needs are coming in twos now.
I like everything about the Evil Roy except the engraved butt stock as well. My only concern with replacing the stock would be getting one that is too much different than the forend. Since Henry does seem to put matched wood on their specialty rifles, I think if I got one I think I would have TwoSticks Leather make me a wrap for it.

Re: Evil Roy
I have four stocks left over from other projects but want a youth stock on it. I can switch and match wood as I have enough to choose from.

Re: Evil Roy
Knowing Henry, you may be able to special order it with a standard.
It would be worth asking anyway.

Naw, just leave him alone and watch his range reports. That's what the doctor says at least.

With a handle like Evil Roy, understatement/modesty is probably not his strong suit.Sir Henry wrote:I'm thinking of getting a couple Evil Roy rifles. I don't like the writing on the buttstock.

This is a heart warming thread. I agree that you "need" to buy "a couple of Evil Roy's," probably ASAP.
Looking forward to pics and range reports.

Re: Evil Roy
a little tinted wood putty, some sanding and finishing you could save the cost of a replacement stock ..

Re: Evil Roy
I saw an Evil Roy model in a shop in Charlotte NC. The wood was absolutely beautiful and the brushed silver receiver looked great. The furniture looked better than what I have seen on all other stock Henry rifles. The gun had good balance If I had the extra cash burning a hole in my pocket it may have come home with me.
If Henry put the "Evil Roy" signature on a silver butt plate instead of etching it into the stock I would be more inclined to buy one.

Hasn't any of you guy's had a Red Ryder. I don't read of any complaints about the writing on the stock for them. That was an attraction to the gun for the to me. I've followed Evil's success and popularity for years. The brushed finish receiver looks great. I'm making a metal butt plate and try to match the receiver finish best I can.

Re: Evil Roy
Yep, got one and I like it. Red Ryder was a fictional character and part of American childhood memories. But I just don't like nor want to carry a Henry with Gene Pearcey's "Evil Roy" cowboy name on it. Same reason I am not interested in wearing a jersey with Montana, Rice, or any players name.
I am happy that it adds value to the gun for you. I just would like to see Henry offer one with a less obtrusive signature.

Re: Evil Roy
Henry offers the silver finished receiver cover for sale separate and I might get order one and not a new rifle.

Re: Evil Roy
I agree with Retired Seabee, why should Evil Roy get part of the $$$ that you pay for a new rifle?
