I have an H001 that is an NWTF Jakes Gun of the Year, number 1807 of 2200. I won it in a raffle in 2003, but have never fired it. I guess I don't need to, as I won close to a dozen .22 caliber rifles, including some nice dedicated target rifles, some antique pump guns and a few levers. I am curious though, if I fire it, does it decrease in value? And if so, to what extent? I have a Golden Boy, which is a great rifle and fun to shoot.

Just curious, how would anybody know you fired it?

They fire it at the factory. I don't think it would matter...............

I've always heard that the value goes up if it is kept in new condition, unfired, and accompanied by the original box .... just how much (if any) firing it might reduce the value is very much open to question

Only a tiny percentage of commemorative guns ever make it to true collector status where firing the gun would actually reduce its value and of these few, almost never the wildlife organization commemoratives. On auctions, the wildlife organization guns typically don't bring much more than a standard gun. If you want to shoot the gun, doubt it would hurt the resale value.

Not interested in selling it really, but will probably give it to my some, daughter or a grandchild someday. Also have a commemorative 9422, a bit fancier rifle with gold inlays and nicer wood. Wont shoot it either, because I have a shooter 9422. just thinking I don't want one kid to feel "slighted". Thanks for the input. May end up taking it to the range, taking the tags off and seeing how it shoots.

That is a really nice rifle, though. I've seen far less attractive commemorative guns that were supposed to sell for a lot more. It certainly is nice enough to use; I agree that it's not so valuable you'll be losing money if you shoot it.

That's a good looking rifle if it were mine I'd be totin in the woods and at the range,
however the guns value would be less than new in the box, to what extant, probably
minimal. If all my firearms were safe queens I'd have missed out on some great times.

When it warms up and the range opens again, I will likely post a range report...not until March though....
