First Henry - Evil Roy 22LR

Post by QB Too » Tue Jan 17, 2017 1:34 pm

I picked up my Evil Roy and then watched videos for disassembly and lubing. Of course I got a patch stuck in the barrel (using an OTIS system) and spent 30 minutes trying to find a dowel small enough to fit and punch it out (which I finally did) :x . I was hoping to shoot it this weekend but didn't get a chance to so hopefully next Saturday I can give it a workout.

I didn't do a full disassembly (i.e. trigger, hammer, etc), just removed the stock, receiver, bolt and cleaned the barrel which was amazingly dirty.

Once back from the range I'll post my results. I love the length of this rifle (13" LOP) and the action seems very smooth, balance is nice. Fit and finish was perfect. I really like the brushed aluminum receiver and the wood grain is nice. I may put Skinner peeps on it or a little Aimpoint H-1. But perhaps the stock sights will be fine, I'll shoot it awhile and see how I like them. I've never used those kind of sights nor the Skinner peeps.

I don't mind the "Evil Roy" etching on the stock, I shoot left handed so really no one will see it when I'm shooting. I wanted the 13" LOP/intermediate length stock so this one fit the bill. The serial number is marked EVILROYxxxx.

My other choice when looking to buy was the Small Game Carbine because it had the Skinner sights but I wanted the 13" LOP and didn't really want to cut down the stock. I'm not sure if I can purchase an intermediate size (13" LOP) stock from Henry or not, guess I could call them.

Here's a quick picture, sorry for the poor quality and "shadows", I'll try to get a better picture this weekend.

I looked at one before I bought the Monument Valley edition. I like the Evil Roy and the name on the stock didnt bother me at all. Besides that if you dont like that name theres a number or guys that would build you a nice leather stock cover for it. Al

Henry sells replacement stocks and you can pick up a youth stock.

Are youth stocks 12.5" LOP or something else? The ER intermediate stock LOP is 13" and seems to fit me perfectly and I was wondering if that size stock could be purchased from Henry (the 13" LOP). I guess I should just call them and ask :)

Thanks for the info on the LOP for the youth stock...........13" is perfect for me. I'm toying with the idea of another Henry, a SGC in 22LR that I'd put a youth stock on. I'd then have the SGC with the skinner peeps and the Evil Roy that I may put the Aimpoint H-1 or a small scope on just for grins. Or maybe I should get a 22mag (SGC or Evil Roy). I have a small amount of 22mag ammo but tons of 22LR so since the rifles are just for plinking/range I suppose I should just stay with 22LR. I'll give Henry a call concerning the youth stocks as I don't see them on their web site.

That is a nice 22. I am thinking of getting one to go with my Big Boy 45Colt.

Welcome, I have handled a couple of Evil Roy models. I am very impressed with the look and feel. Didn't like the etched signature, but it would be easy to ignore given the rest of the rifle is so nice. The ones I saw appeared to have nicer wood than the other models.
I would consider putting a leather stock cover on it.
Load on Sunday and Shoot all Week.......okay it's a Mare's Leg I will reload on Wednesday. ;)

Very nice.......

About the stock etching. I recently picked up a Goldenboy that had the Snap On logo engaged on the stock.
I didn't care for it, bought a new stock set for $70 and sold the Snap On set for $55 on FleaBay.

looking at an Evil Roy and like everything but having "Evil Roy" on the stock. Given my skill level, it seems a bit pretentious. Anyone swap out a stock from Youth or Classic Carbine? How difficult? Will Henry do that or do I have to buy the gun and the extra stock? Which one? Thanks.
