Small Game Carbine
Small Game Carbine
Last week I ordered a new SGC in 22lr and yesterday I picked it up from my FFL. This is my second SGC, the first one I bought a few years ago in 22 mag that has been great, hoping this second one is as well. The rifle looks good and everything seems to function fine, the trigger is better than I expected. First thing I did when I got it home was disassemble and clean it, this rifle was very dry with almost no lube in it. The barrel was filthy, I've never seen a new rile with this dirty of a barrel. A wet patch and a wet nylon brush and many dry patches, still showing lots of embedded dirt. Switched to a Brass brush and many more dry patches and cleaned it up finally, very strange. Henry must put something in the barrel to protect it, that seemed hard to remove, but it's bright and shinny now. Anyway very happy with it and looking forward to getting lots of use from it, this was a Christmas gift to myself. Going to scope it with a 3-9 Leupold and a BKL mount, should be a little squirrel machine and a good range carbine.

That’s going to be a great set up. You must have been a very good boy this year for Santa to reward you so wonderfully.

Very nice! Now get out and blast some snowballs!
Re: Small Game Carbine
Well with the temps today in PA at 19 degrees, and my range closed for hunting season, it's going to be a few days before I get out and shoot it. But I'll be there first halfway decent day with sunshine seeing how it shoots. I'm going to shorten the stock to a 13" LOP tomorrow to add to it's handiness. Should be done at that point and ready for some squirrels.

Re: Small Game Carbine
Ok, I've got a question and I'm a bit confused on this new SGC. This carbine has no large loop lever on it, is this something Henry Changed? Honestly I didn't even notice it at the FFL, and I've looked on Henry's website and the vendors website, and both show and state a large loop lever. The model # engrave on the bottom of the receiver is H001TLP which is a SGC. My older 22mag SGC is correct and has it, I'm not understanding this? It's by no means a deal breaker for me as I slightly prefer the regular loop, but it leaves me with unanswered questions....
Why was the barrel so filthy as if it had 100 rounds of dirty ammo shot through it, but yet the inside of the receiver was pristine?
And where is the lever?

Re: Small Game Carbine
That doesn't sound like something that Henry would allow to escape from the factory. I'd contact them with the details and a picture. Something ain't right.Stump wrote: ↑Sun Dec 07, 2025 4:39 amOk, I've got a question and I'm a bit confused on this new SGC. I have 2 Henry's, a .41 mag BBSC, and a .22wmr Frontier rifle. Both were spotless from the factory, which is why I'm a bit surprised at your experience with this one. Let us know what they say.

Re: Small Game Carbine
I just sent Henry a very polite email with questions about the condition of the rifle, figured I would start there and see how it goes. If I don't hear back in a few days, I will call them and try to get a reply. I am sure they are very busy this time of year, I will be patient and wait for their reply.
Re: Small Game Carbine
Henry returned my email this morning stating that they have no idea how my rifle got out of the factory with a small loop lever. They also said all rifles are test fired and if the barrel was excessively dirty there might be other issues, and they would need the rifle returned for inspection. They would also change out the lever with the correct one at the same time. They encouraged me to file a warranty claim and they would get it straightened out. I have no intention of returning the rifle, it is what it is and I will play the cards I was delt. I'm happy to have such a fine rifle in my possession.

Thats your choice but in my opinion I think you might want to reconsider. Since you like the small lever anyway, you could have them leave it as is. But it might still be a good idea to have them inspect the rifle.Stump wrote: ↑Mon Dec 08, 2025 1:45 pmHenry returned my email this morning stating that they have no idea how my rifle got out of the factory with a small loop lever. Re: Small Game Carbine
I want to shoot it first and see how accurate it is, I have an H001Y that is very accurate compared to other rimfires I have. If it needs to go back it will, but I have to give it a chance to prove itself first. My range is closed for the next 6 days due to hunting season, reopens on Monday the 15th and then we will know. I really don't like sending rifles back unless it's a last resort, I did it one time before with PSA and they had the rifle for 12 weeks.
Re: Small Game Carbine
I sent mine for a barrel exchange and got it back in less than a week.

Re: Small Game Carbine
I wanted a large loop for my BBS 357 after I bought it. I called Henry to see about purchasing one and they told me they would just send me one free of charge. I received it in short order.

Re: Small Game Carbine
That will not happen with Henry. I bet it will be back in 2 weeks or less. I just sent one in for a barrel replacement and had it back in under 2 weeks. They will take care of you fear not.Stump wrote: ↑Mon Dec 08, 2025 3:41 pmI want to shoot it first and see how accurate it is, I have an H001Y that is very accurate compared to other rimfires I have.
