Thought I would share how I paint my front sights. I have tried several things over the years. This is what I found that works the best for me. I use fishing vinal fishing jig paint. I pay 4.95 per bottle I use two colors white and red. Clean the brass bead with acetone cleaner and apply with a q-tip. I let the first coat dry for a 4 our period and put the clean coat on which is from the same co. and let set for 24 hours .I bought this locally its called 06 from component systems. I did this when the sights were installed on the carbines and they sat with the barrel down in my gun cabinet I had no run off. Little dab of these produces goes a long way. Hope this helps.

I used testors model paint in the fluorescent orange, I picked it up at Hobby Lobby for $3.00. I apply it with Q-Tips, allow it to dry, apply a second coat, then apply a coat of clear nail polish.

I used it to paint the sight on my Ruger Mini-14. Pops right out at me.

I've used it on a couple handguns as well. The latest was my Model 64 Smith 2" I just can't see the sights like I used to... old eyes don't yah know. :?

I started with that. Didn't last. Flaked off.

I've had good luck with the model paint lasting, but I don't carry the guns on duty, just shoot them. My edc guns have xs sights. Although, the mini 14 does ride around in a scabbard in the utv, but it has wings for protection.

I had looked into Testors. It was $2 more than the paint pen and figured I would be more likely to use a paint pen for other things than a bottle of paint.

Haven't tried the green, they didnt have any last time we were in. I'll look for it. Post a pic if you get a chance. I'd like to see how it looks in use. :)

Green seems to catch my eyes alot better. Ive used that green on all of my guns and Ive only got one gun that has a red dot sight on it. I buy green dot reflex sights for rifles and pistols.

I was having difficulty picking up the front sight on my H001. I removed the hood and put some of the Testor's florescent orange paint on the sight post. I left the hood off. It made a big difference. I am able to pick up the sights more quickly now.

Good idea on leaving the hood off.
