Frontier is Home

Post by leverjc » Thu Mar 02, 2023 2:08 pm

Brown returned my Frontier today with a new barrel installed. The original barrel was not rifled at the end of the muzzle, I sent it back and Henry did a "muzzle adjustment". In one of my posts I had a pic of what Henry called a muzzle adjustment. I have to hand it to Henry this barrel looks perfect. This is one of the cleanest cut bores I have looked at. It looks as good as two of the match grade barrels I have.

I will put the Williams peep sight back on it tonight and take it to the range tomorrow.

I think yours will be the first range report on one.

I have an update on the Frontier Henry sent back to me. Henry did a lot more things than just replace the barrel. I cannot figure out why they did this because everything worked fine before. They replaced the inner and outer magazine tubes. The grind marks on the outer tube are not as bad as the original outer tube but not as nice as the one that was sent in that I had polished and reblued. There is also a tight spot about three quarters of the way down the magazine tube that takes more pressure to slide then lightens up again. When loaded with five rounds I can feel the spring start to compress against the rounds then it then it tightens before closing with normal pressure. They also put a new hammer on it and I suspect a new seer as the it has a really nice 3.5lb creep free trigger but the one I sent in had really nice 2.25lb pull. When I was cleaning it after shooting, I was running a tight patch down the bore and it seemed like it is looser near the muzzle.

i am going to shoot it one more time before I disassemble it to have the lever, cover, action and barrel band Cerakoted. I will see what I can do about the magazine tube and trigger then.

i will give another range report then.

That's very good. I can't see a 9" gong at that distance. I have to use a scope.
